Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer (Geotechnical Engineer)
to the Mining Technology Department
The Mining Technology department supports the mining operations within Boliden with anything from operational problem solving to engineering and design of new areas in the existing mines. Together with the Business Development department we perform feasibility studies for new deposits. At the Technology department we work in close co-operation with our mining operations, in cross-functional teams and with strong personal commitment.
Responsibilities
As a senior Rock Mechanics Engineer your main responsibility will be to support our mines, our management and your colleagues at Technology with expert knowledge needed for safe and efficient operations.
You will perform Rock Mechanical assessments for the mines, including mining method selection, design criteria, design of rock support and backfill, evaluation of mining sequences as well as design of geotechnical monitoring programs.
You will also participate in feasibility studies, initiate and manage R&D projects, develop our way-of-work within rock mechanics, be a mentor for new engineers, develop training material and provide in-house training within rock mechanics, maintain contacts with relevant universities, R&D institutes and other mining companies.

Your qualification
We are looking for a person with several years of operational experience in Rock Mechanics in the mining industry and previous experience in the tasks described above.
You hold a master’s in engineering or Science with specialization in Rock Mechanics, or a PhD/Licentiate in the same area. Practical experience from project management, tunnelling, seismic monitoring as well as Deswik CAD is an advantage. A driver’s licence (B) is a requirement.
You should preferably be fluent in the Swedish language, both spoken and written. If you lack proficiency in Swedish, we will consider applicants with excellent English and a willingness and ability to learn the Swedish language in short time.

To be successful, you need an analytic mind and should be methodical and meticulous. As you will communicate with many internal and external contacts you will require well developed social skills and the ability to adjust to the situation.
