Senior Scientist Biopharmaceutics

We are looking for a Senior Scientist Biopharmaceutics that will work within Pharmaceutical Science

The biopharmaceutics expertise within AstraZeneca brings mechanistic understanding of absorption and predictions of the influence of the formulation on the delivery of a drug molecule to the body. AstraZeneca, Gothenburg has a strong position in the areas of inhalation, oral controlled and immediate release products and there is an increasing interest in advanced parenteral delivery including biological drug molecules.

Pharmaceutical Sciences is a newly created department within our Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) Biotech unit. The vision for Pharmaceutical Sciences is to deliver the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, design of synthetic routes and manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). Our portfolio of projects span traditional small molecules to RNA based therapies across AstraZeneca?s therapy areas.

The Role
As a Biopharmaceutis Expert within Pharmaceutical Sciences you are anticipated to assess the biopharmaceutic risk carried by drug candidates and to define the biopharmaceutics testing strategy as well as to make significant contribution to the product design in product development projects. The work includes to plan, perform, evaluate and report in silico (e.g. Gastroplus®) and in vitro tests (e.g. dissolution, permeability), or in vivo studies in collaboration with experts from other areas (e.g. Clinical Pharmacology, DMPK). Examples include:
Provide predictions of clinical performance of oral products based on in vitro as well as in vivo data using mechanistic in silico models
Support design of clinical studies and clinical trial materials based on expert knowledge on clinical trial material performance
Contribution to preclinical and clinical formulation development
The role also includes contribution to the biopharmaceutics scientific community/network within AstraZeneca in the provision of new science, technologies and best practice leading to better predictive biopharmaceutics tools and/or improved drug delivery. As a Biopharmaceutics Expert you are also expected to contribute to the scientific reputation of Pharmaceutical Sciences by presenting work at conferences and articles in scientific journals or through publication of patents.

Requirements
To fulfil this role we would expect a candidate to be:
A PhD in biopharmaceutics sciences (e.g. drug absorption/delivery) or equivalent industrial experience or track record
A scientific expert in his/her area and be passionate about continued development of the expertise in the areas of biopharmaceutics, preclinical/clinical formulation and drug delivery.
