Senior Scientist, Cell Therapy, In vitro & Bioinformatics

Arbetsbeskrivning

Are you a passionate in vitro scientist with combined expertise in molecular and cell biology, bioinformatics and statistical analysis? Are you excited by the opportunity to apply your scientific drive to the development of cell-based therapies? Join us and become a key player in the build of our Biopharmaceuticals R&D Cell Therapy department. Together we will push the boundaries of Science!

At AstraZeneca, you will be empowered to be innovative and creative where difference is valued. We thrive in a place where the brightest and most curious minds seamlessly come together in our inclusive environment.

Biopharmaceuticals R&D is committed to the development of next generation innovative medicines and we are building a new Cell Therapy department with the goal to establish AstraZeneca as a world-leader in Cell Therapy across disease areas within Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) and Respiratory and Inflammation (R&I). The department will bring together >50 specialists to support the organisation with cell therapy expertise and capabilities. The new department has an agile "biotech-like" culture, with specialists in the department working closely with experts across AstraZeneca globally to leverage the existing and emerging platforms in stem cell technologies, new modalities, universal cell lines, and CRISPR-mediated genome editing.

The role is placed at AstraZeneca's dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden, where you will work in an international environment at the fore front of Cell Therapy science.

What you will do

This role provide an opportunity to work in an international, highly cross disciplinary environment with ground breaking techniques and technologies within areas such as stem cell biology and precise genome editing.

As a skilled cell, molecular and bioinformatic scientist, you will work collaboratively with project leaders, in vitro and in vivo scientists, and therapy area specialists to drive our scientific capabilities and ensure efficient progress of Cell Therapy projects. As a lab-based scientist you will use your in vitro knowledge and expertise to design and perform experiments, deliver data and propose the next steps in support of cell therapy projects. You will also support the Cell Therapy Department with molecular design, bioinformatic input, -omics analysis, model generation and analyses. In addition, you will take a leading role in developing our scientific capabilities and communicating our novel work externally.

Accountabilities include:

*

Drive efforts to discover, develop and characterize cell therapy candidates based on complex multi-parameter experiments.
*

Design and perform experiments related to condition screening and cell characteristics to generate high quality relevant data to support cell therapy programs.
*

Independently assess and report data to support project decisions and milestones.
*

Communicate and share relevant information between distinct projects within the bioscience department as well as across other functions and external collaborators.
*

Keep up to date with relevant scientific literature and technology platforms as well as writing and publishing scientific papers.
*

Ensure that your work is compliant and in accordance with other relevant internal and external standards and regulations.

Essential for the role

*

Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology or a related discipline, or a BSc/MSc degree with relevant academic or industrial experience
*

Experience with mammalian cell culture and/or stem cell culture
*

Experience with gene engineering and genome editing (e.g., synthetic biology, CRISPR, viral/non-viral gene transfer, etc) and related methodology such as construct design, cloning and developing reporter systems.
*

Experience in omics analysis, bioinformatics, interpreting large/complex datasets and DoE (Design of Experiment).
*

Dedicated team player with excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude
*

Ability to work independently, take own initiatives and have a positive, goal oriented and problem-solving attitude.
*

Good organizational, data management and documentation skills
*

Good scientific presentation skills and ability to comfortably present and discuss scientific data.

Desirable for the role

*

Experience of sequencing methodology, expression array analysis and/or computational/bioinformatics tools for NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) data analysis.
*

Experience in cellular analysis platforms (e.g., multicolor flow cytometry, IF, confocal microscopy)

So, what is next?

Are you already imagining yourself joining our team? Good, because we can't wait to hear from you!

Welcome with your application no later than November 7, 2021

Why AstraZeneca?

Our Gothenburg site is one of AstraZeneca's three strategic science centers. We thrive in a multinational environment working cross-functionally across the globe with AstraZeneca colleagues as well as academic and industry partners. Our way of life is to foster a working environment that nurtures collaboration, openness and innovation. Therefore, we have created space for meetings, socializing and relaxation, where spontaneous meetings can give birth to new innovations. The unexpected ideas or thoughts that can come from a chat over something as simple as a cup of coffee or a stroll on our "walk and talk" meeting trail.
