Senior Scientist - Innovative in vivo gene engineering

Arbetsbeskrivning

Are you a passionate In vivo biologist that is excited by the idea of contributing to the creation of a novel treatment for rare diseases? Are you ready to innovate and deliver CRISPR/Cas9 reagents to therapeutically genome edit a cure? If yes, then this exciting role at AstraZeneca is for you!

Take the opportunity to join us and play an important part in the Genome Engineering In Vivo Models team at our vibrant AstraZeneca R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden, as we are looking for a Senior Scientist with focus on in vivo genome modification.

Our growing Genome Engineering department are working within the broader Discovery Biology organisation with a common goal to innovate at the interface of science and technology. We identify new targets, create reagents, assays and disease models to discover new medicines, and to develop cell and gene therapies.

We continually push the boundaries of science to deliver medicines that treat diseases across our main therapy areas. Through our integration with Alexion, this now includes expanding the limits of scientific research to better understand rare diseases and to discover new life-changing treatments for them.

What you'll do:
Leveraging your strong understanding and experience in genome editing you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge to gene therapy projects. You will use your innovative thinking to explore the in vivo delivery of new genome editing technologies. In this lab-based in vivo senior scientist role, you will be part of a team responsible for delivery of CRISPR-Cas9 and related technologies to mice.

You will assess the efficiency of genome editing in vivo by next generation sequencing or biomarker assays. You will be involved in all stages of a project; plan, design, execute and analyse data from experiments to generate high quality results to support project decisions and milestones.

Essential for the role:
The right candidate for this position is an innovative team member who enjoys collaboration and interacting across our AZ global functions and fields. It is important for you to do the right thing - and this goes hand in hand with your good organisational, data management and documentation skills, with effective problem-solving and a strong delivery focus. You should also have;

* Experience with genome editing tools (Cas9, base or prime editors).
* A passion for working 'hands on' in vivo; delivery and sampling in mice for biochemical assay analysis.
* Expertise with analysis of genome editing outcomes, NGS.
* Have academic or industrial experience or a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
* Collaborative mentality, great communication skills and a passion for in vivo.

Why AstraZeneca?
Join the team unlocking the power of what science can do. We are working towards treating, preventing, modifying and even curing some of the world's most complex diseases. Here we have the potential to grow our pipeline and positively impact the lives of billions of patients around the world.
