Senior Scientist - Modelling & Simulation Specialist

Arbetsbeskrivning

At AstraZeneca we turn ideas into life changing medicines. Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big and working together to make the impossible a reality. Do you want to be a part of this and make a change?

In the role as Senior Scientist/Associate Principal Scientist - Modelling and Simulation Specialist, you will join our Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS) team who are responsible for designing, conducting and interpreting pre-clinical safety studies, both in vitro and in vivo using cutting edge technologies. The position will be based at our vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.

As a Modelling and Simulation Specialist you will play an essential role in defining the way we use data and technology in the future. Your focus will be on pharmacology, toxicology and in vivo data and you will be responsible for the application of systems pharmacology and data science to evaluate and translate in vivo safety findings from preclinical species into patient populations. You should have a track record of developing and applying model-based approaches in the development of drugs to join us.

What you'll do:
Your main challenge will be on developing and implementing systems pharmacology approaches in preclinical safety. Specifically, you will apply systems modelling or pharmacokinetics (PK) / pharmacodynamics (PD) models to in vivo and in vitro data to support projects in both pre-clinical and clinical phases. The role also includes collaboration with computational specialists in other departments and institutions to coordinate the development and implementation of cross-functional relations.

To succeed in this role, we believe you are a person who enjoys working collaboratively with a variety of key stakeholders and collaborators to identify opportunities, build support and deliver innovative modelling and simulation solutions.

Main responsibilities:

* Develop and utilize mathematical models to enhance quantitative mechanistic understanding of disease and pharmacotherapy based on literature and in-house data. Including:
- Identifying relevant data (in vitro and in vivo preclinical and clinical study data) for model development, optimization, and validation
- Analyse and interpret complex data sets in the context of disease mechanisms and pathways
* Analysing and interpreting outcomes of toxicology/safety studies to enhance project decision-making
* Building systems framework for key safety risk and relevance to disease
* Evaluating and interpreting data to prepare for internal governance bodies
* Contributing to the development and implementation of new modelling and simulation strategies for drug safety

Essential requirements:

* PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant area
* Knowledge and experience with the drug discovery/development process
* Extensive Modelling and Simulation experience with PK/PD, or Quantitative Systems Pharmacology
* Exposure to current principles and concepts in DMPK, Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology/Safety
* High degree of scientific leadership as evidenced by publication record
* Demonstrated ability in delivering systems modelling results through verbal and written communications to guide strategy and enhance decision making.
