Arbetsbeskrivning
Do you have experience in working with oligonucleotides to modulate gene expression levels? Do you also have a background in cell biology and like testing innovative approaches? Perfect, this position might be your next challenge at AstraZeneca!
We are looking for a motivated and engaged Senior Scientist for our Oligo Assay Development team at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg. This is an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a lab-based scientist to develop cell assays for discovery of novel oligonucleotide therapeutics.
Join a dedicated Research and Development team fuelled by commitment to improve the lives of patients, strengthen AstraZeneca's pipeline of new modality therapies and grow our research capabilities.
What you will do:
With your knowledge of oligonucleotide cell biology and assay development you will develop state-of-the art cell-based assays for screening and profiling of therapeutic oligonucleotides (ASOs and siRNAs) including assays for cell uptake and mechanism of action. You will work within Discovery Sciences, part of AstraZeneca's BioPharmaceuticals organisation, which focuses on scientific advances in drug discovery across therapeutic areas including, respiratory and inflammation (R&I) cardiovascular, renal and metabolism (CVRM) and rare diseases.
With your motivation and passion to make a difference for patients you are expected to bring novel ideas and scientific strategy to help progress drug projects.
Essential in the role:
* PhD in cell biology, biotechnology, pharmacology or a related field or a BSc/MSc degree with significant relevant experience, preferably from the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
* Expertise in cellular biology techniques applied to development of cell-based assays.
* Expertise in working with oligonucleotides (ASOs or siRNA) for modulation of gene expression.
* Experience working with many and diverse cell models.
* A practical understanding of a wide range of cell assay technologies including imaging, qPCR and reporter assays.
We also see you as a person who enjoys collaboration and team working, who holds networking skills with experience of interacting effectively across interfaces of functions, fields, and expertise. This goes hand in hand with problem-solving skills, strong delivery focus and communication skills.
Desirable in the role:
* Expertise in a range of molecular and cell biology techniques including transfection for gene knockdown/silencing or splice modulation.
* Expertise in bioinformatics for design and analysis of oligonucleotide research.
* Expertise in design, development and validation of cellular assays for compound screening and/or profiling.
* Experience with automation of cell assays.
* Solid knowledge of oligonucleotides including mechanisms driving cell uptake and activity.
