Senior Scientist - Sample prep & protein mass spectrometry

Senior Scientist - Sample prep & protein mass spectrometry

Arbetsbeskrivning

Are you an experienced scientist with expertise in biological mass spectrometry and protein sample preparation? Do you want to use your skills to push the boundaries of science with a great team of colleagues by your side? Then this position at AstraZeneca might be your next role!

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join our Mechanistic and Structural Biology department within the Discovery Sciences organization in Gothenburg, Sweden. One of our remits is to provide detailed mechanism of action data to drug discovery projects. Leading from the bench, the successful candidate will combine excellent communication and team-working skills with a passion for scientific excellence, delivery and innovation. Besides a solid scientific track record, you bring a strong external network of relevance to this position and have a demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with scientific colleagues.

We continually push the boundaries of science to deliver medicines that treat diseases across our main therapy areas. Through our integration with Alexion, this now includes expanding the limits of scientific research to better understand rare diseases and to discover new life-changing treatments for them.

What you will do:
This is a senior lab-based role that will support our drug discovery projects with quantitative measurements of intracellular protein levels and their turnover using protein mass spectrometry. Of relevance to this role is the determination of absolute levels of chosen proteins of interest (targeted protein MS) and their respective degradation in response to treatment.

The successful candidate has demonstrated skills in sample workup and protein labelling to support bespoke mechanistic studies of specific target proteins. You´ll also be expected to take initiatives towards improvement of sample preparation routines and to work strategically towards improving sample capacity and throughput of measurements.

Essential in the role:

* Ph.D. and extensive experience of relevance to the role.
* Biological mass spectrometry expertise, with prior application of absolute quantification and protein turnover measurements.
* Extensive experience in protein sample preparation from cell lysates and a thorough understanding of available approaches for enrichment and labelling.
* Expertise in protein turnover measurements using the SILAC approach.
* Prior experience of working with high-resolution protein mass spectrometry.

Desirable in the role:

* Expertise in the design, development and validation of cellular assays for compound profiling
* Track record of identifying and adopting scientific and technical advances
