Welcome to join the great Oligonucleotide Chemistry team as a motivated Senior Research Scientist at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden. In this position, you will play an important part in our Oligonucleotide Discovery Department which is part of the broader Discovery Sciences R&D organization.

As an specialist and member of the Oligonucleotide Medicinal Chemistry team you will have a key role to influence the strategy as well as to develop and lead the science in the field to expand the use of therapeutic oligonucleotides in drug projects within AstraZeneca.

What you will do:
This role is a synthesis specialist role with the aim to develop novel oligonucleotide chemistry building blocks, oligonucleotides and oligo conjugates and thereby supporting the AstraZeneca pipeline. The Senior Research Scientist works alongside other chemists in the team to contribute to drug projects but should also be comfortable in supervising and mentoring more junior colleagues.
In the position you will also propose experimental strategies and have the possibility to be creative in solving a wide range of synthetic challenges. Plan, prioritize and perform own work and actively collaborate with the project team by driving problem solving using literature and own knowledge. Support oligonucleotide projects to ensure high scientific standards and quality of compounds to meet project objectives. Build strong collaborative relationships within the team and in projects to ensure the smooth running of projects.
We rely on you to have recognized synthesis expertise and experience. Knowledge within the oligonucleotide chemistry field is considered a plus including synthesis and purification of high quality building blocks and oligo compounds by applying innovative technologies and methodologies to support project progression according to agreed timelines. The SRS should also be able to apply analytical sciences, troubleshoot challenges and make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of project compounds.
Essentials for this role:
* Candidate should have a PhD in Organic Chemistry, post-doc is a plus.
* Detailed knowledge of synthetic chemistry related to oligonucleotides, oligo building blocks and/or synthesis of advanced organic molecules. Knowledge in the area of oligonucleotide therapeutics, design and data analysis is a plus.
* Ability to design and complete experiments independently.
* Evidence of experimental impact by either peer-reviewed publications or external presentations.
