Arbetsbeskrivning
Do you have great experience in tissue imaging, and would like to be a part of an Imaging & AI team who has direct impact on drug development, playing a key role in bringing medicines to patients? If yes, welcome to join us at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden, as our new Tissue Imaging Scientist.
As our new Tissue Imaging Scientist you will play a pivotal role in delivering high quality imaging data, employing core histology and advanced molecular techniques, involving (multiplex) immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and in situ hybridisation method development as well as antibody characterisation to support projects.
In this role you will be a part of our Imaging & AI team working within the Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS) organisation. CPSS is changing the way imaging technologies are combined to offer unprecedented insight and impact. Our imaging hubs combine data from histology, digital pathology, multiplex assays, advanced molecular imaging techniques (including mass spectrometry imaging) and a full suite of in vivo imaging technologies.
We continually push the boundaries of science to deliver medicines that treat diseases across our main therapy areas. Through our integration with Alexion, this now includes expanding the limits of scientific research to better understand rare diseases and to discover new life-changing treatments for them.
What you'll do:
As a Tissue Imaging Scientist you will be involved in the delivery of the histology component of early investigative in vivo safety studies, working with the local imaging hub lead, pathologists and study directors to deliver data to required quality standards and timelines. In addition, you will provide expert application of imaging technologies to advise on efficacy of new therapies.
You will also lead the design of tissue imaging endpoints, primarily with histological and molecular pathology-based techniques, and provide general and hypothesis-driven scientific advice on specific topics to the team. To do this, you need to have a strong understanding of the practices, principles and concepts associated with a variety of study types using both histological/molecular pathology techniques and other tissue imaging technologies within the group. Additional responsibilities:
* Develop and apply advanced molecular techniques including multiplex immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence and in situ hybridisation.
* Dynamically deliver standard safety histology endpoints, directly or through CRO outsourcing.
* Learn to perform basic image analysis using commercial software solutions.
Essential in the role:
* PhD or Graduate (mouse biology, molecular biology, biotechnology etc.) with strong experience in a relevant field.
* Expert knowledge in at least one of the following: immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, in situ hybridisation.
* Knowledge of histomorphology of mammalian tissue/s.
* Independent experimental design, critical data analysis (including statistics) and reporting.
* Comprehensive core knowledge of histology techniques.
* Problem-solving skills related to molecular pathology data analysis.
The successful candidate should have the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively and be a supportive colleague in our great team. This also goes hand in hand with your problem-solving skills and strong delivery and goal focus. If you possesses leadership skills within small teams and on individual projects that's a plus to take on this role.
Desirable in the role:
* Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or hospital molecular pathology laboratory.
* Practical knowledge of multiplex immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence methodology.
* Experience in image analysis using commercial software solutions.
* Understanding of other disciplines within pharmaceutical R&D.
