Arbetsbeskrivning
Do you have expertise in advanced fluorescence imaging and a passion to build an understanding of pharmacological response and mode of action for our drug projects? Would you like to use your expertise in a company where we are following the science and turn ideas into life-changing medicines? Join us to discover future treatment of Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic (CVRM) diseases!
Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big and working together to make the impossible a reality. We're passionate about the potential of science to address the unmet needs of patients around the world. We commit to those areas where we believe we can really change the course of medicine and bring big new ideas to life.
CVRM is one of three main therapeutic research areas within AstraZeneca. Early CVRM has a patient-centric approach for discovering novel treatments for patients with cardiovascular-, chronic kidney- and metabolic disease.
We are now recruiting a Senior Scientist/Associate Principal Scientist to join the Bioscience department within Early CVRM at AstraZeneca's vibrant R&D site in Gothenburg, (Sweden). This is an opportunity to be part of the Cell and Molecular Pharmacology (CMP) team - a team where we collaborate to support projects aiming to impact patients' lives. We are responsible for the generation of data that drives the bioscience in our projects that deliver candidate drugs into late-stage clinical development.
With our innovative pipeline there is a need to develop appropriate imaging technology and deliver advanced image data to build an understanding of pharmacological response and mode of action for our drug projects. In this role you will apply proven imaging, image analysis and cell biology expertise and provide dedicated experimental support to our drug discovery programs.
This lab-based role can be at Senior Scientist or Associate Principal Scientist level depending on the experience of the successful candidate.
What you'll do
This is a truly exciting senior lab-based role where you will operate in close collaboration with scientists across the Early CVRM department. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing the CVRM microscopy platform, delivering high-quality microscopy data and data analysis. As an imaging expert you will support and educate other scientists. The work includes independent planning and execution of experiments, troubleshooting and timely reporting of data according to agreed timelines. The role provides the opportunity to support CVRM projects as a Therapy Area Co-Lead role, or Bioscience Lead role. We will also rely on you to take an active role in the local, cross-functional microscopy super-user community, in the global imaging community as well as to lead initiatives, collaborations and scientific development related to in vitro imaging.
Essential for the role
*
PhD complemented by at least 2 years' relevant postdoctoral/professional experience or a first degree and at least 6+ years' experience within a relevant scientific field.
*
Extensive expertise in fluorescence imaging techniques including immunofluorescence, fluorescent proteins, confocal and non-confocal high-content imaging, live-cell imaging, 3D imaging.
*
Extensive expertise in advanced quantitative image analysis, with software such as Columbus, ImageJ, CellProfiler and Arivis. Experience with scripting applications, machine learning and deep learning methods is a plus.
*
Scientific visibility and leadership through project contributions and external publications.
*
Experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques
*
Excellent communication skills and an ability to operate in a multi-disciplinary research environment.
*
Proven ability in providing technical leadership and guidance to others.
*
Experience with laboratory automation systems and a high technical competence
*
Independent analysis and evaluation of complex data and delivery of data to agreed timelines.
Desirable for the role
*
Experience in Cardiovascular, Renal and/or Metabolic Diseases.
*
Expertise in the design, development, and validation of assays for high throughput drug screening.
*
Proven ability to manage and develop a microscopy platform.
*
Track record of identifying and adopting scientific and technical advances.
*
Excellent problem-solving skills not limited to own area of expertise.
So, what's next?
Are you already imagining yourself joining our team? Good, because we can't wait to hear from you!
