About us
Welcome to join us as Senior System Designer – Electric Grid within the External Energy Systems team. We are responsible for the development of competitive solutions outside of the vehicle, ranging from charging cables and wall boxes to solar cells, energy management and energy storage systems.

The External Energy Systems team works closely with many other parts of the organization. Charging and Battery teams are naturally very close in everyday work. These teams are working on AC- and DC-charging, which is in current projects and technologies like V2X, smart charging, plug and charge and wireless charging are just around the corner. Teams working on app and cloud functionalities are also important collaborators as we pursue this together.

The external energy system area is growing and will play a more important role for Volvo Cars going forward. The ambition is that our customers shall have the opportunity to charge their vehicles in a sustainable and safe way, and the possibility to integrate with smart energy management systems. Part of this is to interact with the electric grid in a safe way, according to regulations and at the same providing value to our customers and the society. This requires deep knowledge how the electric grid interacts with the EV and the eco system that surrounds it. This is where we want your help!

What you will do
As a System Designer – Electric Grid you will be responsible for the system design of the external energy systems. You will need high competence and drive in developing energy efficient solutions that are integrated in a seamless way. Integration is both in technical terms towards the electric grid and the car but also towards the customer to create a leading user experience. This will require extensive knowledge of power systems and their behaviours. Innovative solutions within a highly competitive segment are required and expected from you. You have experience of working as system designer and you have used agile as a work method.
Since this is still a somewhat immature area of technology without set standards the legal and regulative aspects is of high importance.

You and your skills
You are passionate about cars and energy solutions, both from a customer and technical point of view. You have a high level of engagement and a strong enthusiasm. It is crucial to be good at cross-functional work and networking, since collaboration with internal and external stakeholders will be part of your daily work, hence you need to possess great communication and cooperation skills. You need to be structured and have organizational skills, to guide the development in the desired direction• BSc/MSc or several years of relevant experience. Experience from agile development is meritorious.

• Experience within home energy systems, like energy management/solar power/energy storage is highly meritorious
• Experience within power system analysis
• Knowledge of grid codes and their implications is meritorious
• Knowledge within Charging solutions, both public and private, is meritorious
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Driver’s license (B)
