Purpose of the role
The Sensory and Consumer Scientist is responsible for:
· Managing and performing internal sensory and consumer studies to support the R&D category teams (Nutritional Products, Skincare and Colour formulations)
· Organising sensory and consumer studies with external vendors
· Validating new sensory and consumer methodologies
· Drive innovation and expertise in allocated champion area
· Maintenance of Sensory Excellence process within R&D ensuring sensory studies are performed as per established standards
· Train and maintain internal sensory panels
What will you Do?
Design, conduct, analyse and report studies following the defined process
· Work with Formulation Chemists, recommend optimum methodologies available in the Sensory and Consumer Toolbox (Sensory profiling QDA, Triangle Test, RDA, At home in-use, etc…) to meet project objectives within cost, timing and resources available
· Prepare Study documentation
· Administer and conduct specific standard studies according to established methods and study protocols
· Analyse data and form scientifically valid conclusions from studies
· Quality Control of test data and documentation
· Schedule external studies with external agencys, receive data and reports and process according to established procedures
· Create and distribute standard study reports to Sponsor within agreed timelines
· Present project and study findings to team members and key stakeholders as appropriate.
Maintain Sensory and Consumer Excellence
· Maintain Sensory and Consumer Excellence by regularly discussing tools and protocols with stakeholders.
· Expand team knowledge by interaction with suppliers, literature searches, and engagements with external contacts.
· Regularly share knowledge and present relevant study examples to R&D audience (Chemists/ Nutritional Scientists) to maintain and promote sensory and consumer research.
· Knowledge of external agencies and their capabilities.
· Coordinate Efficiently Internal Panels (Expert and Trained) for Skincare products.
· Initiating appropriate training programs
· Monitoring Panel performance of both trained and expert panels in place
· Providing performance feedback to panelists with tact and diplomacy.
· Ensuring Panel studies are run according to standard protocols.
Research and Innovation
· Design, Develop & Validate new Test Methods following the defined Test Method Creation Process
· Generate, share and communicate insights from scientific conferences/events/visits, competitor analysis and research investigation outputs internally to team or to a wider internal audience.
· Support relevant Oriflame’s innovation processes and workshops. Propose innovative ideas and new test method investigation in line with Oriflame’s strategy.
· Assist in the translation of scientific data into consumer-relevant claims.
· Share research findings with R&D stakeholders
Quality and Administration
· Adhere to team Quality processes and procedures, support other team members to deliver processes to required timelines
· Support team administration duties (Shipments, Stock check)
· Design standard study analysis templates for in house basic methods. Update existing Work Instructions/ Test Methods / Standard Operating Procedures
· Apply continuous improvement approach, update and improve standard documentation and arrange issue once approval obtained.
Your background and your qualifications
· Background in Sensory science and a minimum bachelor’s degree / master’s degree in an appropriate field with a Sensory/consumer focus with experience in sensory evaluation, experimental design and statistics.
· Professional written and verbal communication skills in English
