The Jönköping AI Lab (JAIL) research group currently consists of two full prof, two associate prof, and five asst.
prof as well as PhD students and laboratory engineers. The main research focus is applied data-driven AI via machine learning. In order to ensure a research group with great relevance, a significant part of research and education is carried out in collaboration with the surrounding society and industry. JAIL focuses on theory and methods from data mining, machine learning, and semantic technologies. JAIL is building a multidisciplinary team with members from several relevant disciplines. Today, we are the largest research group at the Department of Computer Science and Informatics, at the School of Engineering, Jönköping University, and we are now ready to take the next step. We are now expanding into a unique direction and are looking for up to seven associate or asst. prof. We are looking for those of you who are passionate, independent, creative, curious, and who want to be part of helping us to develop excellent research and education.
Job description
In the role as associate/asst. prof, you will primarily conduct research and education. Typical assignments include teaching (course responsibilities and supervision/ examination of degree projects) and participation in research projects. You are also expected to contribute actively to the development of the JAIL research group, as well as the department's education programs and courses in artificial intelligence, data science, and machine learning. Main duties include:
- independent planning and execution of research, and dissemination of research results through publication
- participation in the preparation of applications for external research grants
- participation in research projects, preferably in co-production with the industry
- supervision of thesis work at both a basic and an advanced level, and supervision of doctoral students
- course and program development
- teaching, including course responsibilities, at all levels
- contribute actively to the development of the Jönköping AI Laboratory (JAIL) research group as well as the department's research and education in artificial intelligence, data science, and machine learning
Requirements
For this position, you must:
- have solid and documented knowledge in at least one of the following research areas: natural language processing and text mining, pattern recognition, data mining, computer vision, deep learning, statistical learning, edge computing, explainable AI, human-centered AI, FAT (fairness, accountability and transparency)
- have solid and documented knowledge in at least one of the following teaching areas: artificial intelligence, machine learning, embedded systems, research methods within computer science, high performance computing, programming/software development, database systems
Solid and documented knowledge is shown by, for example: doctoral dissertation in the field, high quality publications in the field (for example, publishing channels ranked A or B according to the Australian list: http://www.core.edu.au/conference-portal), course evaluations showing high quality teaching in the field, participation in the international scientific community in the field, demonstrated the effect of applied research in collaboration with industry or the public sector, etc.
It is meritorious if you have:
- proven experience in developing courses and/or programs at the basic and/or advanced level
- proven experience of thesis supervision at the undergraduate, advanced and/or postgraduate levels
- proven experience of receiving external research grants from financiers relevant to a Swedish context
- good ability to communicate in Swedish in speech and writing

Terms
These are full time (100%) tenured positions with start in September 2020, or as agreed upon. The positions include a minimum of 50% research, support in finding housing and mentoring to the next career step. Working conditions are regulated in collective agreements and Jönköping University implements individual salary setting.

- if the doctor degree is not yet completed: a statement from the Dean/MD of the institution verifying that there is a decision regarding the date for when the doctor degree will be completed.
