Single core Multi core verification from a RTCA DO-178C perspective

The Master’s thesis concerns theoretical analysis, assessment of processes and test environment. 

Background information & Place of action

Electronic Defence Systems, a business area of Saab, is one of the world’s premier suppliers of solutions for surveillance, avionics and systems to detect locate and protect against threat. Saab in Jönköping has a wide range of products, mainly for Aerospace applications, including e.g. utility and mission computers, control computers, hydraulic actuators, electric motors and motor controllers. Most of our equipment is safety critical and must be certified according to civilian standards. These standards put demands on the design and verification processes. We are required to generating proof that all requirements have been taken care of in the sense of validation and verification. When doing that we are using code coverage tools. The tools and processes we use today are based on single core processor architectures. We want to investigate the impact for us to shift to multicore architecture. 

Task description

The bachelor’s thesis will be carried out in steps. The student will begin with learning how we work with code coverage today. The second step will be to acquire knowledge of the civil aircraft standard RTCA DO-178C. The next step will be to evaluate the impact on our existing verification processes and the needed changes of our test environment. 

Other information

The Master’s thesis position is at the Saab EDS facilities in Jönköping. The position is suitable for one student.

A bachelor’s student within the Technical program for computer science or comparable may apply for the position.
