Six (6) Experts in data management and analysis (Big Data)

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the project
Data driven research is becoming increasingly important for the research activities at Chalmers. To meet the challenges posed by this evolution, specific competences have been identified and Chalmers is now seeking to employ data experts covering these areas. The data experts will be working in conjunction with one or more research projects within Chalmers. We are aiming to provide both direct short-term support for research projects, as well as develop a longer-term joint pool of data expertise available more generally to researchers at Chalmers.

This initiative is being implemented as a joint project between Chalmers eight Areas of Advance: Built environment, Energy, Information and Communication technology (ICT), Life Science Engineering, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Materials Science, Production and Transport. The Areas of Advance are platforms to facilitate, develop, and display areas where we have particular strengths and to help address future challenges and work towards a sustainable society.

Job description
The competences sought here are database and data analysis experts, software engineers, visualization experts, numericists, and ICT tools expert as well as individuals with more domain specific profiles relating to the topical areas of the Areas of Advance but still aiming towards developing toolsets and supporting users.

The data -experts will, based on their specific expertise, be working in close connection to a research group developing tools and/or analysis methods for data driven research activities. As a data expert you will either be settled directly in a research group acting within an Area of Advance, or, if the specific competences so dictate, within an ICT-related department. The aim is to help develop and/or implement new analysis methods in existing platforms, or in some cases help develop a data analysis infrastructure from the ground up. Part of the time will be set aside to help develop general competencies for Big Data at Chalmers.

The positions are full time, temporary employment with up to two years initial duration.

Qualifications
A minimum of bachelor-level education in computer science, mathematics or mathematical statistics is expected, but other educational backgrounds may be suitable depending on the specific skills and experience of the applicant. Documented experience in either a specific data-centric domain, or in software development in general are expected. Good communication and collaborative skills are essential.

We are also considering candidates holding a master’s or PhD degree in the relevant fields of research.

The specific areas of expertise being sought are relating to a broad set of competences, for example: data mining, machine learning, information visualization, image analysis and processing, statistical methods, sensor (data) fusion, data management, database technologies, cloud technologies, data scalability, data ontologies and mappings, web-based platforms for data analysis and integration.

Domain specific experiences in relation to the different Areas of Advance is considered positive but is not essential. Candidates with a strong domain specific background with capability and interest to develop data expert careers are welcome.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
