University Animal Hospital
The University animal hospital (UDS) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is one of Sweden’s largest animal hospitals. UDS is a resource for research and the clinical training of veterinary students and veterinary nurses at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, SLU. UDS has approximately 200 employees that provide high quality animal care to cats, dogs, exotic pets, horses and has an ambulatory service for farm animals.

The Diagnostic Imaging Clinic at UDS is the largest in Sweden and one of the largest Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Sections in Europe, and we offer standard small and large animal track ECVDI residency programmes. In 2014 UDS moved into a new facility that is one of Europe´s most modern animal hospitals. The Diagnostic Imaging Clinic does small and large animal diagnostic imaging for UDS patients, operates a Diagnostic imaging service for external small and large animal patients and a teleradiology service for images sent in from external clinics in Sweden.

The clinic is equipped with small and large animal radiography, small animal fluoroscopy, small and large animal ultrasound, small and large animal 64-slice CT, 1.5 T small animal MRI, 0.27 T equine standing MRI, small and large animal nuclear medicine including a hotlab. The clinic has many international contacts and often has foreign vets visiting or working with us.

The clinic currently has 11 radiologists (six Dip ECVDI, five Swedish specialists in diagnostic imaging in dogs and cats, two candidates for the British certificate of DI) and 8 technical staff. Our nurses/technicians are specialized and work only with diagnostic imaging.

The position:
The resident will work in the University Animal Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Clinic and progress through a training programme in small animal radiography, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and scintigraphy. The programme will also include two months of training in equine radiography and scintigraphy. The resident will be expected to actively participate in the supervision and teaching of undergraduate veterinary students and general activities in the clinic including internal training of University Animal Hospital staff, and information and education activities for referring veterinarians and animal owners.

Qualifications:

• The applicant must have a veterinary degree that is recognized in Sweden.
• A minimum of one year in a recognized general clinical training programme (internship) or two years of satisfactory veterinary practice equivalent.
• The applicant must have a strong ambition to become a specialist in veterinary diagnostic imaging and is expected to complete the requirements and take the examinations for the European Diploma in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.

Assessment criteria


• Previous experience working with, teaching or conducting research in small animal  diagnostic imaging  would be considered an advantage.
• British Cert in DI, Swedish specialization step II in Diagnostic Imaging in dogs and cats or other international educational programmes in veterinary Diagnostic Imaging is a merit.
• Fluent in spoken and written Swedish is considered a strong merit for the position. Non-Swedish speaking successful applicants will be expected to learn spoken Swedish within a period of 2 years.
• The selection will be based upon the written application and an interview where qualifications, collaboration and communication skills together with other personal qualities are important.

Time limited specialization position, maximum 4 years.

The working time is currently placed on weekdays daytime.

Starting preferably in June 2020 but no later than the 1´st of august.
