Smart Innovation Norway is a non-profit research and innovation company that specializes in research-based business and societal development within sustainable energy, applied artificial intelligence, smart cities and communities and digital entrepreneurship.
With a growing demand for behavioral science and social innovation towards creating a sustainable energy future, we are looking for the right candidates to join our Social Innovation team in both Jystrup, Denmark and Helsinki, Finland.

WHY?
The transition to a more sustainable energy system requires a fundamentally new approach to engage the end-customer as well as various relevant stakeholders as an integral part of the energy value chain. The customer is no longer just a recipient and user of energy, but also a potential producer, storage provider and flexibility agent. At the other end of the value chain, the green transition requires adaption from energy sector stakeholders and the building of new skills.

WHO?
Our ideal candidate will have expertise in the social sciences, humanities and/or user experience design i.e.: user psychology. He or she will be able to bridge the theoretical understanding of customers and societal dynamics with designing and implementing concrete strategies to engage citizens, communities, market actors and governance structures with regards to energy use and the design of energy systems.
The successful candidate for this position will join our team in Denmark or Finland and work with a number of clients and partners from all over Europe and India.
A number of recently won EU granted projects are the basis of this application. It means working in a European context with partners from all over Europe. Two types of roles are required to carry out these projects. The profiles we are looking for to fill these roles are:
1 An academic background with the ability to turn psychological/sociological theory into strategy
2 about the ability to implement engagement strategies and disseminate project findings to engage and inform communities with the goal of changing behaviours.

The positions will consist of:
-Structuring and organising primary research (e.g. focus groups, workshops, surveys, interviews) together with internal teams and external partners
-Developing communication and dissemination strategies and activities in collaboration with the communication team
-Designing and implementing concrete activities and strategies to engage all actors of the energy value chain
-Conducting user-centric design and usability testing in the range of IT platforms to nudging
-Project management and report writing in international projects
-Facilitating collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team
-Contributing to the advancement of knowledge and understanding in the field of Social Innovation in the energy sector (developing new models, strategies of engagement, etc.)
-Travelling to various countries for conferences, workshops, meetings, etc.

The best combination of experiences, skills and background is:
-A degree in the field of social sciences; for example, psychology, sociology, philosophy, anthropology or user experience design.
-2-5 years of experience working in areas related to energy and/or consumer insights
-Experience structuring primary research (e.g. moderating focus groups, designing surveys, one-on-one interviews) with various stakeholder groups
-Experience working on EU funded research and development projects (e.g. H2020)
-Experience with project management tasks (e.g. setting timelines, allocating resources, establishing milestones)
-The ability to understand big picture and communicate the necessary information to various audiences
-The ability to manage large initiatives with various teams and stakeholders
-Excellent written and spoken English is a must. Professional knowledge of other languages is also an advantage
-Knowledge of software of tools for facilitating workshops, activities etc. is also beneficial, but not required

You would be joining our team in Denmark, with our office located in Jystrup just south of Roskilde, or in Finland, where our office is based in Helsinki. The transition to a more sustainable energy system requires a fundamentally new approach in which we engage stakeholders that are to becoming an integral part of the energy value chain. Therefore, we focus on facilitating the energy transition by placing consumers at the heart of future energy systems. However, with technical and complex solutions at its heart, the energy industry has not always been very appealing for the end customer and in this respect, we have specialized in understanding what drives engagement and participation and the implementation of engagement strategies. Smart Innovation Norway works both directly with utilities and other actors in the energy industry and through research with both national and international bodies.
