Job Description

Introduction
The Social Affairs Service is open to all members of CERN personnel (employed or associated), beneficiaries of the CERN Pension Fund, and members of their families. It offers information and advice to help individuals or groups solve or manage problems, in a variety of private and professional circumstances taking account of the specific nature of the Organization.

The Social Affairs Service is also a resource centre supporting the integration of internationally relocated (short-term or long-term) members of personnel and their family into CERN local area, and sometimes back into their country of origin.

The Service provides support in the areas of:
- Life at work (work relations, concerns, departure from the Organization);
- Health (consequences on job after an accident or an illness, quality of working life, old age and dependence);
- Family life (childcare and education, marriage/partnership, divorce, bereavement) and
- Personal administration when dealing with local authorities or other entities in case of difficulties.


Functions

Within a team of two social workers and an experienced administrative assistant, you will:
- Analyze individual situations, build, together with the requestor, adequate solutions using a multi-disciplinary approach and put in place a follow-up.
- Inform requestors on a variety of aspects of life in France and in Switzerland, providing individual or collective information sessions, brochures or web pages, or referral to other services.
- Implement or play a role in procedures such as the follow-up of long-term sickness cases in view of rehabilitation; the recognition of the special education needs / disability of members of personnel children; the death of Members of the Personnel; the harassment resolution process; the establishment of a staff help programs in case of addiction.
- Interact and collaborate with a network of internal experts to prevent and solve individual or collective issues (occupational health practitioners, legal advisors, HR specialists, Ombud) or with external services.
- Prepare analysis to support decision-making or policy evolution. Exchange experience, share issues with others and compare approaches with colleagues.
- Contribute to HR or social welfare-related projects.


Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of social work or a related field.
- Public Law: knowledge of social protection systems, immigration law, family law.

Experience:
- Proven experience as a generalist social worker;
- Practice in administrative regulations and institutional landscape, and legal framework of one of CERN's two Host-States (France or Switzerland) would be a strong asset.

Technical competencies:

- Practice of social case work.

- Managing self: keeping emotions in check when dealing with contentious issues; working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting.
- Solving problems: assimilating large quantities of information, identifying key issues and formulating conclusions clearly and concisely; identifying, defining and assessing problems, taking action to address them.
- Building relationships: accepting others in a non-judgmental way and taking their point of view into account.
- Working in teams: understanding when teamwork is required to achieve the best results; including others accordingly and sharing information.

Language skills:
- Spoken and written English and French: ability to understand and speak both languages in professional contexts.

Contract type:
