Arbetsbeskrivning

Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.

What’s in it for you?
Our purpose at Vehicle Energy and Motion Control (VEMC), is to create the most energy efficient, safe and situation adapted ride and drive experience. By evaluating driver input, surrounding information (e.g. camera, radar and route data) and Autonomous Drive request, as well as vehicle state sensor input, our software (mainly inhouse developed) coordinates the different actuators (engine, motors, brakes, steering) to fulfill our purpose and balance vehicle attributes.
We have the responsibility to design, implement and tune the software components needed to fulfil our purpose. We are today about 150 ambitious and experienced engineers doing this together, and our products have big impact on the driver experience which makes our work even more fun.

What will you do?
Within the Energy Efficiency group, we are now looking for a software developer and test engineer to one of our development teams. The team is working with inhouse developed software, mainly model-based using Simulink, together with target link or embedded coder, but also some C++ and Java. Our software components are deployed in various control unites in the vehicle (EMC, VCU1, IHU, CSP).
Most of the software the team develop, is related to the Vehicle Energy Management and Driver Coach functions, which contains functionality such as: Electrical Distance to Empty (range prediction), range assistant, route based optimized charge/discharge of electric energy, and predictive thermal management, to name a few. The purpose of the functions is to minimize the energy consumption of the vehicle, actively or by coaching the driver. Solutions are developed for all types of vehicles, but focus is on our fully electric vehicles.
Your role and initial tasks will be based upon the competence and experience you bring into the team, but independently of your tasks you will need to collaborate with many different teams and individuals, both internal and external to the department.

Do you fit the profile?
We seek someone who is open minded and curious with a good ability to cooperate. You have good communication skills, and the ability to cope with many topics in parallel. You are a technical-minded team player who appreciate to work with different cultures. Besides being customer focused, you have a strong analytical capability, are structured, and organized in daily work.
You have more than 3 years of experience in the relevant field, and at least a master’s degree in engineering. You bring experience from embedded software development and testing, have a holistic view and great systems thinking. Preferably you have skills in both model-based development and C++ and/or Java, but primarily we are looking for someone who can bring more C++/Java experience to the team.
We assume that you communicate fluently in English (speech and writing) and have a driver’s license (level B).
