Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
Get to know us!
We at Charging are responsible for the development of major parts of hybrid and electric vehicle systems at Volvo Cars. The group Charging Software is responsible for delivering software functionality, but also diagnostics functionality, for the on-board charger (OBC).
The on-board charger is essential for electrified vehicles, it holds the functionality to charge the traction battery from the grid, and it is for sure of highest importance in a pure electric vehicle.
The biggest complexity when it comes to the DC-charging functionality of electrified vehicle is that half of the system is outside of the vehicle. The success of the charging-sequence is highly dependent on the implementation in the charging station done by other companies and that they interpret the standard in the same way as we do. We therefore need to do the uttermost we can in our SW/HW to make charging of the vehicle a success, both in AC and DC charging.
Our vision is to deliver the best Charging Software functionality in the market and continuously evolve our way of working. We aim for a more modular software platform to cope with different configurations of the worldwide charging standards that are continuously updated. Our roadmap consists of exciting innovative charging technology, such as Vehicle-To-Grid (V2G) and Plug & Charging (PnC) and you will get to work with such features a lot!
What will you do?
As a Software Developer you will be part of an agile team that delivers Application Software for the charging communication controller. You will utilize a model-based development (MBD) process with Simulink and AUTOSAR framework/toolchain to realize functionality for different charging standards and systems in the vehicle.
You need to contribute to review/understanding the software requirements, implement the logics within the boundary of the requirement, perform unit tests to ensure functionality and that no errors were introduced. To perform peer review is needed to increase the quality but also the awareness of what is happening in other parts of the SW, parts that you personally are not working with right now. Other activities that we do is calibration in vehicle, testing in HIL (Hardware-In-the-Loop) and vehicle, analyze, fault trace and correct software issues, and lastly interact with Volvo internal support teams and suppliers about software design solutions.
As a part of the agile team, together with other Software Developers and Software Testers you are part of the process with daily meetings, sprint planning, time estimation and retrospective, all for the purpose to improve ourselves and the way of working.
Do you fit the profile?
We believe that you have at least a B. Sc. degree within engineering, particularly electronics, software engineering or equivalent competence. On top of this, you have some years’ experience with model-based development for embedded systems. We are a global company so a must for us is that you are fluent in English. Also, you should have a driving license (B), preferably you love cars as much as we do!
This is what you need to have. But there are also a few skills that we would consider meritorious if you were familiar with:
Experience of working as embedded software/function developer
Matlab/Simulink with State Flow development and Simulink Test
Experience of product development within the automotive industry
Knowledge of AUTOSAR architecture, development of Software components and ports
Knowledge of charging standards like Combined Charging Standard (CCS), ISO 15118 or DIN SPEC 70121.
CANoe/CANalyzer and INCA
Matlab scripting
GIT, SVN.
Knowledge of power electronics, especially on-board charger functionality
In this role you need to be structured, motivated and have good documentation skills. You are used to cooperate and communicate with different people in different roles, and you also have a flexible and business-oriented mind set. Other traits that we appreciate is integrity, courage, and energy.
