KITS Software Group
The KITS-SW group provides MAX IV with a wide range of software solutions for the facility scientific endeavours.

Among others we provide control system solutions following international standards in synchrotrons such as web-based user interfaces, distributed hardware control, scanning tools for running experiments, acquiring and saving data and metadata, etc. As very important part of MAX IV, the functionality and the reliability of the control and acquisition system software is continuously developed to meet the research requirements. 

In our team you will meet open minded people from different perspectives. Being part of the KITS group, you will have a close collaboration with network, system, software and hardware engineers and scientific software experts. We promote a DevOps style cross functional team and collaboration between all people.

MAX IV is looking for a Software Engineer who will…  
join a trust-oriented and open team where continuous improvement and mentorship is part of our DNA. As an experienced professional we expect from you to bridge science and state of the art software development. You will be involved in a wide range of software developments from low level instrument interfaces to a corresponding high-level representation following our control standards like Tango and Sardana. Also, development around data acquisition from a variety of detectors and their integration into the experimental stations. 

You will be expected to participate in different international collaborations about control and data acquisition, as well as to contribute to international conferences. 
 
You will also be able to learn and to increase your skills, competence, and experience.  

Your main work tasks will be  
- Developing software projects for scientific experimentation of MAX IV.  
- Developing software projects from low level hardware interfaces to high level optimized applications in python and under Linux.  
- Increasing the functionality and the reliability of the whole facility to realize its scientific potential. 
- Sensing the “User eXperience” for troubleshooting and finding simple user-friendly solutions to complex problems.  
- Participating to the team planning and resource estimation as well as improving the group infrastructure. 
- Being our team’s representative for one of our beamlines 

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications: 
- A university degree. 
- A professional experience with Python 3 programming. 
- Develop Software in a Linux operating system environment. 
- Understanding of network and Distributive System: TCP/IP, ZMQ, … 
- Experience with Agile team environment and familiar with the peer programming, review, unit tests, continuous integration, and continuous delivery. 
- An open source spirit. 

Below are seen as merits:
- Experience in Control System development. 
- Experience in Tango and/or Sardana development. 
- Other Software programming languages: JavaScript, C, C++, GO, Rust …  
- Software development for scientific environment. 
- Web development: Microframework, HTTP, React…  
- Showing evidence of an Open Source community collaboration. 
- Working in an international research-oriented environment.

In addition to the above it is regarded as highly important to supply evidence that you are a team player and can demonstrate your communication and collaborative skills. You should also be committed to quality work and able to understand requirements for scientific related developments.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.

The MAX IV Controls and IT team (KITS) deliver solutions to the whole MAX IV organisation in the areas of control system hardware, controls software applications, infrastructure and networking, information management and scientific software. This is a dynamic and highly challenging environment and requires close collaboration with the staff in order to understand the needs and be effective in forming solutions. We are around 50 people in total who work in 5 domains in a well organised and agile way. We hold values of lean management, knowledge spread, user autonomy, continuous improvement and flexibility as guiding principles for our work.
