WHY WE WILL LOVE YOU
Heard about API-economy? Transforming our business is all about liberating data. And being able to mobilize data as it happens, in the form of Events, is key. That is exactly what is happening at IKEA Retail (Ingka) across the tech landscape. We, the Event Messaging team, believe that decoupled architecture is the key to building resilient systems while governance of Events to achieve the “economy” is essential. While hybrid multi-Cloud is the reality of our technology landscape today - operating across 4 Public Cloud providers, our On-premise Data Centers and our 378 IKEA stores globally, it has its own complexities and optimization challenges. We, the team, are focused on how to make distribution, discovery and cataloging of Event streams across this landscape seamless and easy. Simplicity is in our value, and we want to achieve that for the many engineering teams at and beyond IKEA – for which we - “the few” - need to take on the complex problems, so that others do what they do best, deliver value to the business. Are you willing to be the one in that few?
REQUIREMENTS
• Experience in building/exposing and consuming microservices such as REST or GraphQL
• Hands-on experience in app development and deployment in Cloud is a must (Google Cloud is preferred)
• Coding experience with programming language like Python, Node.js etc. is desired
• You have experience in deployment and configuration management automation using GitHub Actions or similar
• GitHub has been at the center of your developer experience with Gitflow a well-practiced workflow
• Proficient in CI/CD pipeline implementation using tool of choice
• Experience of working in an Agile and DevOps working set-up
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Next-gen platforms are what we build and in that we have had some glaring early platform service successes, but we are just getting started. As a key software engineer in the team, you have an opportunity to:
• Implement, rollout and optimization of “core" cloud agnostic distributed eventing network using Mesh architecture across Google Cloud, Azure, Alibaba, Openshift – extending to the edges (IKEA Stores and Warehouses), all accessible via self-service paradigms.
• Work in agile teams, contributing to the development and maintenance of Products and Services
• Design and develop workflows, libraries and tooling - driven by AsyncAPI specification supporting popular programming languages like Python, Java etc.
• Develop, integrate and enable organization-wide discovery and cataloging of events in the Event Portal while drawing connections to our Data Catalog and Enterprise Developer portal.
• Synchronise software design and architecture by aligning with stakeholders to ensure expected outcomes
• Building service metrics and dashboarding of KPIs like cost, consumption etc. across all the above capability segments
TOGETHER AS A TEAM
We are basically a small team of exuberant folks across 3 geographical locations who are tasked to be pioneers in this space. We take pride in delivering and operating services, and tools for the many engineering teams at IKEA – which also means listening to our engineering culture and adapting as we go.
Customer obsession is what we are passionate about, while we march forward with scaling and building the hybrid multi-cloud Event Mesh, Portal and the eco-system around it. We are committed to providing self-serve ways of consuming our services while continuously iterating and delivering changes that brings simplicity for the many.
Purpose-driven and not task-driven is our mantra. We pin us to these core IKEA values - Lead by example, Simplicity, Togetherness.
