Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.
What's in it for you
The Advanced Analytics & AI (AA&AI) organization is tasked with identifying opportunities for the application of data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning throughout the company, and then acting on those opportunities. In addition, we develop and operate tools and processes to accelerate and support all teams using data science and machine learning at Volvo Cars.
We are now looking for software engineers to join our teams in Gothenburg. Two teams within AA&AI are recruiting: the Machine Learning Engineering and Operations team and the Data Science team. Your background and interests will determine where you would fit best - the requirements for the roles are very similar.
These roles do not require machine learning expertise and are ideal for talented and experienced software engineers that want to enter the field of applied AI.
You and your skills
You have several years of professional software development experience. You are a self-starter and ready to take the lead on challenging problems. You have excellent communication skills and are eager to share knowledge with your peers. You speak Python almost as well as your native language. Code quality and unit testing are second nature to you, and you know how to design reusable code. You are curious about new tech, and you're excited to step out of your comfort zone and acquire new skills.
What you’ll do
You will work in a virtual team consisting of data scientists, ML engineers, MLOps engineers, and product managers. You will have a big influence over the development process of the services and ML models. This means that you will develop new features and refactor existing ones where it's needed. You will also guide and educate your peers through code reviews and give suggestions on design patterns. Depending on your interests, you will also contribute to the data science platform which is used by dozens of teams across the organization. This might entail the development and deployment of microservices, evolving existing cloud-native automation, and contributing to the open-source projects that we use in our tech stack.
