To be successful and provide the best support to the factory, we work in a network and gather competences from different parts of the organization, both in GTO and Group Digital & IT.
We work in the Volvo Trucks factory in Gothenburg/Tuve and we closely collaborate with our business colleagues and promptly react on new requirements and local challenges. Our team builds and maintains digital solutions having different architecture: on top of core systems, as standalone applications, IoT/OT devices.
In our day-to-day work we use JavaScript, Thingworx, Python, Docker, Power Platform, SQL, C, Rust. We also utilize other technologies depending on the use cases.

Role description
As a Software Engineer you will be involved in the following activities: understand and document business requirements, design technical solutions, write and test code, provide third-line support.
In this role you will gain an overall understanding of Volvo’s manufacturing IT systems (multiple domains like production, logistics, quality, environment etc). It will allow you to extend the core systems’ capabilities by building a new digital layer.
As stated above – our team is working with various technologies but we don’t expect you to be an expert in all of them. You will be involved in different projects and over the time you will have a chance to boost your development skills. You will work with frontend and backend development.
You will be a part of an agile cross-functional team which quickly reacts on business requirements. And of course you can always count on the support from our skilled and dedicated teammates.
Main responsibilities
Identify and prioritize digital initiatives which will improve operational efficiency
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions
Make sure that the created IT solutions are consistent with global and local processes
Participate in prototyping and development
Continuously work to improve team’s efficiency by utilizing CI/CD tools
Be creative and innovative
Required competences
Technical education on university level or similar experience
At least couple of years of experience as a Solutions Engineer/Developer or similar
(no problem if you are a graduate or will be one soon! You may still have some experience working on complex academic and hobby projects)
Innovative mindset and problem-solving attitude
Eager to work with new technologies and processes
Team player – must be able to work with people at different levels of the organization and in a global team
Ability to run meetings and workshops
Have an genuine interest in working in a manufacturing environment
Knowledge of software development using Python or JavaScript/TypeScript or Rust
At least basic knowledge of SQL and some of RDBMS
As a plus we will consider:
Knowledge of React/Node.js/Linux
Interest in IoT, electronics and embedded development
Swedish fluency
