The European Spallation Source (ESS) is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, 15 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software development centre. In the context of its history and future as a scientific organisation, however, it is more than the sum of its parts. It is a brand-new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up.

About the role
We are currently seeking a talented Software Engineer to join the Information Systems Group within the ESS IT Division. The primary objective of the IT Division is to deliver reliable, secure, and cost-effective IT services to support ESS across all stages of its operations. The Information Systems Group focuses on developing innovative solutions and ensuring the ongoing maintenance of these solutions to meet the needs of ESS and it associated entities. In the course of your daily work, you will interact with various applications, with a primary emphasis on two main themes, PLM development and software testing. You will collaborate closely within a team of four responsible for managing our PLM platform. Your primary focus will be on spearheading the required test efforts, however this will not be limited to only this specific software but also extending to other relevant areas.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement comprehensive testing processes, including creating test plans and opening bugs to ensure the quality of software solutions.
• Utilize strong technical abilities to work with various software programs, with a focus on PLM systems.
• Leverage knowledge of various programming languages, depending on the project requirements, to effectively test and debug software applications.
• Demonstrate understanding of different database types, including design, implementation, and data management.
• Communicate testing results and recommendations effectively through written and verbal means, ensuring clear and concise reporting.
This is a full-time, permanent position with a 6 months probationary period located at the ESS Campus in Lund, Sweden.
About you
We are looking for an experienced and structured software engineer with a knack for problem-solving and a keen eye for detail who thrives in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, prioritizing tasks to meet project requirements while maintaining high-quality standards. You enjoy working in a collaborative environment, bringing technical expertise, strong analytical skills and solid communication skills to the table.
In addition, you possess the following:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Knowledge in TestComplete, Zephyr and Jira
• Familiarity in Jenkins, GitLab and with CI/CD
• Expertise in 3DExperience and Catia V6
• Proven experience in software development and maintenance
The working language of ESS is English but it would be great if you could also work in Swedish as well. For this role, we need someone who can start as soon as possible!
