Software Engineer Steering Gear
Within the Department of Deceleration & Steering, we develop Brake- and Steering- systems for future car models and continuously improve our current models. We are now looking to outsource the responsibility to implement (together with the supplier) the Software for the steering gear in our next-generation vehicles.
This assignment will involve collaboration both with internal and external partners and will require high communication and project lead skills. A high technical interest in both HW and SW is required.
Assignment and Scope
The purpose of Volvo Cars’ Steering department is to create the best Steering system for the customer regarding Safety, Sustainability, and Steering Feel.
The responsibility/ownership of implementing a new steering gear in our next-generation vehicles will require high coordination/collaboration skills and a very high understanding of the steering system and its impact on the rest of the car.
The Steering Gear in our next-generation vehicles is developed by a full-service supplier. The status of the program today is that we are finalizing the sourcing of our first vehicle and moving into the implementation phase. At the same time, we are already sourcing the second vehicle. Therefore this assignment requires competence both in the pre-sourcing phase (concept) and implementation phase.
Deliverables and Responsibilities
o Develop and continuously improve the quality of the steering system according to VCC procedures.
o Follow the technical/logical Plan for the competence area and VPP (volvo project plan)
o Together with system architects, principal engineer, and attribute team draw up specifications and requirements for the component and communicate them to potential suppliers with proper documentation.
o Work in close collaboration with
o Attribute leaders (safety, vehicle dynamics, etc.)
o Manufacturing
o External Suppliers
o Etc.
o Define test plans, perform acceptance and integration tests and review test results
o Ensure the work is delivered as per specified acceptance criteria and definition
Requirements – Experience and background
We believe you have a passion for SW with several years of hands-on experience in SW development and you are eager to develop and continuously improve the quality of the architecture for the steering system according to VCC procedures.
o You have an M.Sc. in Controls and Mechatronics, Electronical or Computer Science Engineering or equal.
o You are fluent in English (spoken and written) have a driving license (B) and drive on a regular basis.
o More than 3 years of hands on experience in the following
o Engineering documentation (Requirements)
o SW Quality Assurance
o Project Management
o Supplier Management
o FMEA
o System Safety
o Cybersecurity
o You are also self-organizing and has full knowledge and the ability to work independently in Volvos Product Development Processes, Systems, and Tools.
