We are looking for a
SOFTWARE SYSTEM ENGINEER

The Space Plasma Physics research programme at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics in Uppsala invites applications for a full-time one-year position as a scientific instrument software system engineer. The main work is testing and documentation of the software from a system perspective for the Radio & Plasma Waves Investigation (RPWI) on the European Space Agency (ESA) JUpiter ICy moons Explorer (JUICE) mission to Jupiter to be launched in 2023.
Required qualifications
B. Sc. in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other comparable training that the employer considers to be of similar competence.
Several years’ experience of proven software development.
Knowledge in real-time programming in C for embedded systems and microcontrollers.
Experience of producing and maintaining software documentation.

The following will also be considered a merit for the position:
Experience of system and/or unit level testing of software.

· Experience of leading software development projects and/or small teams, and basic project management skills (e.g. time planning and reporting).
· Basic knowledge of computer architectures, cache, pipelines, interrupts, DMA, FPU, etc.
· Knowledge of SpaceWire, simple data protocols, serial links and the LEON processor.
· Knowledge of TCL and Python.
In addition, it is necessary to have good communication and coordination skills, as the role involves working within a small software team at IRF, alongside several international instrument software teams within RPWI, as well as liaison with ESA and Airbus Defence and Space. It is expected that the successful applicant will take an overarching view of the application software under testing, whilst at the same time be able to take on responsibility for specific tests and debugging as needed to meet deadlines. Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure are therefore essential. The work is mainly conducted in English, and the applicant therefore needs to be fluent in both speech and writing in English.
The position is placed at the Uppsala office of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF), located at the Ångström Laboratory. The position is temporary, for a duration of one years at 100%.
