Software engineering is an increasingly important area in the automotive industry. Volvo Cars is bringing more of the software development in-house to better handle continuous integration and the complex interactions between different functions. We are well on our way to become a truly software company. Connectivity is an enabler for a majority of the functions leveraging on embedded and cloud-based software systems, data management and robust design.
The unit Connected Experience within Volvo Cars R&D is responsible for providing the best and most secure connected user experience in the automotive industry. We have been connecting our cars for more than two decades, and by now global connectivity in the combination with an excellent infotainment system are important pieces to grow our future business. Leveraging on Volvo Cars unrivaled audio experience, mobile functions, and data with privacy in mind.
To further strengthening our team of solution architects we are now looking for a Solution Architect with Software Mastership profile at Connected experience, to further strengthening our advanced engineering capabilities through excellent software design and design architecture, whether it is leveraging on embedded and/or cloud software solutions.
What you'll do
You will facilitate the work to further strengthening our overall design architecture, as well take part in and drive technical studies and exploration activities related to roadmap and technology plan.
The work involves collaborating with highly skilled software designers and system architects with domain expertise, technical specialists and solution architects specialized around different technology, in an end-2-end chain and work with some of the most well reputable global tech companies in the field.
The scope spans over several functional areas to bring best user experience, like connectivity, infotainment, remote functions and applications, hardware & mechatronics, both in an embedded, as well cloud-based services domain, on a global market at scale.
You will balance time on facilitating activities related with design architecture, enabling a modularized, scalable, maintainable, and future proof architecture, that support speed in development, continuous integration, and quality assurance. You will also encounter for enhancing a great developer experience. As a data driven organization, we also put great values in your skills in design for enhanced logging capabilities to learn from data in the field.
Side to this you will take part in and driving investigations and exploratory activities concerning new technologies and architectures to support our system architecture evolution.
Activities might also involve technology scouting and strategic R&D work, proof or concepts and the connection to research.
Do you fit the profile?
To fully enjoy this opportunity, we believe you have a background in software or information technology with at least a master’s degree or equivalent.
You have a long professional experience in embedded and cloud-based services and distributed complex systems, as well an excellent knowledge in and proven hands-on work experience as an experienced architect/developer to work on a system architecture level. Proven ability to analyze and make recommendations for system architecture, to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders and to facilitate continuous improvements within a design and system architect community.
The role requires good organizational, documentation, communication and collaboration skills.
