Plastik - and maxillofacial surgery
Uppsala University Hospital is one of Sweden's major teaching hospitals with approximately 1 100 hospital beds and approximately 60 000 care events. Around 25 percent of the patients are related to highly specialized care that is provided nationally. In addition, on a yearly basis more than 650 000 patients visit the hospital for outpatient care and 30 000 surgical procedures are carried out. At the hospital there are more than 8 000 people working, of which 1 200 are physicians. Uppsala is an old university town and its university was founded in 1477. It is currently ranked among the top 100 universities in the world. Uppsala has about 200 000 inhabitants and is located in close proximity to both Arlanda airport and Stockholm, 35 km and 67 km, respectively.
Are we right for you?
At the Department of plastic surgery and maxillofacial surgery we are approximately 200 employees, of which 12 are plastic surgeons who work with a broad range of reconstructive plastic surgery.
The department is in a strong phase of development in research and has in recent years expanded within the profile areas highly specialized burn care, cleft surgery, craniofacial surgery and microsurgical reconstructions. The Uppsala University Hospital has been given two National Specialized Medical Care assignments by the National Board of Health and Welfare for the treatment of severe burns and for specific patient categories within craniofacial surgery. At present pre-clinical research is carried out at a laboratory being part of the organization.
Are you right for us?
We are currently looking for a specialist in plastic surgery with experience of, or genuine interest in, burn care. Ongoing research and development in the area of burn care is viewed as valuable qualifications as well as interest or experience in intensive care or acute trauma care. The position is a combined clinic and research position in the Burn Care unit. The position is flexible to the extent that the applicant can also carry out Ph.D. studies in combination with 50 % clinical work as a specialist in the Burn Care unit.
Working conditions
The position is initially a temporary position for 6 months with the possibility of permanent contract.
Much emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as initiative, engagement, flexibility and teamwork. Experience from research and development work is a prerequisite. If applicant meets the hospital’s formal requirements for a consultancy position there are such possibilities.
