Who we are?
The first thing you will notice on a car is the exterior with its distinctive lighting. Exterior lighting is a key safety and communication point for Volvo Cars towards the customers and this will increase even further in the future due to the rapid development of new advanced technologies. At Exterior Lighting, you are part of a global cross functional development team with the task to develop and launch Volvo Car Groups upcoming car projects. We are now strengthening our team with two Sr Design engineers and You will be a key person to develop world class lighting concepts in close cooperation with Design department and engineering.
What you will do
You will work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment together with our technical experts, design engineers and project managers in a cross functional team with highly dedicated members. Some of your main responsibilities will be to design complex optical concepts for lighting functions, e. g. lenses, houses and light guide components for automotive exterior lighting applications considering requirement fulfillment as well as legal, safety, economic and production-related framework condition. You will be the lead person for concept design and development activities spanning from advanced engineering to concept- and project phase. 
•    Lead exterior in house concept design 
•    Develop technical concepts and solutions in close cooperation with design
•    Develop 3D models for virtual verification and manufacturing of proto tools/part for physical verification.
•    Contribute to secure functional models and functional sections
•    Analyzes highly complex design problems and formulates engineering conclusions by the application of engineering principles.
•    Contribute to secure geometry and final demands
•    Provides engineering direction and support to design
•    Generate temporary studies/concept sketches, of specific areas, to realize or eliminate engineering concerns.

You and your skills
We are looking for you who has a degree in Engineering, preferably with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. We believe you have strong communication skills and that you have documented knowledge in designing complex plastic parts. 
You have an open mind, positive attitude and like to be proactive, you possess the courage to try new ways of doing things, take initiative and lead change. You are eager to learn and think outside of the box with a passion for innovation and driving efficient design.
•    Proven experience in design/development engineering of complex parts in automotive industry
•    Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering 
•    Proficient in Catia V5
•    Very good knowledge in designing plastic parts
•    Knowledge in tool design
•    Experience - Minimum 6 years of diversified design and/or engineering experience
•    Fluent English both in verbal and written. 
•    Previous experience in exterior lighting design as Tier 1 is advantageous
