About the role
As senior Legal Counsel, you will have a key role as the strategic legal partner with a whole spectrum of legal matters, and you will interact with stakeholders both internally and externally. An important part of your job will be to support the division in matters regarding our journey towards fossil-free steel production, sanctions, procurement and contract law as well as governance, compliance and risk management. You will be part of our group legal team, and report to General Counsel for SSAB Europe and Ruukki Construction. In addition to the above, you will work closely with our Transformation Office that is responsible for our journey towards fossil free steel production on Group level.
The role is based at either in Helsinki or in Stockholm, but you will be working close to colleagues within the division and some travelling is required, mainly to our own production sites.
Your main accountabilities will be:
• Independently handle (draft, review and negotiate) all types of commercial contracts and tender conditions in SSAB's business (supply, sales, maintenance, procurement contracts, etc.)
• Review and improve governance, compliance and risk models within the division
•Advise on legal disputes and handle litigation/arbitration matters
•Conduct legal training sessions with business
•Advise on major projects, e.g. legal issues related to the fossil free transformation
•Advise on various internal policies of SSAB
•Draft legal opinions and risk assessment reports as when required
•Track legal and regulatory updates and share important updates with the legal team
•General legal advice to business and other legal matters as required
•Work with external legal counsels on specific matters ranging from litigation to expert advice requests within expected cost constraints.
Your qualifications

You are driven and social with good collaboration and presentation skills. You have an analytical mindset and you’re comfortable working with both strategic and operational complex legal topics. You have good communication skills and can build trust as well as support the organization in a professional and confidential way. Naturally, you have high integrity, and you pay attention to details.
Applicants are expected to have
•Master of Laws (LL.M.), or equivalent
•At least six to eight years of experience from working with qualified legal matters in a law firm or at a larger listed company.
•Excellent communication skills in Finnish/Swedish and English. It is a plus if you speak both Finnish and Swedish.
The job is permanent and full-time. According to the agreement, the work will start as soon as possible.
