Thesis work at Volvo Group Purchasing: Strategizing for future renewable electricity market
Background of thesis project
Within the next decade Volvo Group will not only electrify our trucks and machines but also turn to electrification of processes and manufacturing of batteries. This will significantly change the demand for power in the coming years for Volvo Group. Two aspects that will be key in this transformation is securing renewable electricity at a good cost.
We are therefore looking for someone who can support in developing the electricity purchasing strategy for the next 10+ years based on, amongst other things, current and future market trends, legislation, and other external factors.
One thing we believe will be part of the future electricity purchasing is Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and the thesis would therefore partly focus on how these types of agreements can be used to optimize the electricity portfolio both from a financial and environmental point of view.
Benchmarks with other organizations within the Volvo Group and externally to understand what are specific success drivers when managing renewable energy strategy. The result should include ideas for improvement in current way of working/process/tools.
As part of this thesis, you would support Volvo’s purchasing department but you would also get the opportunity to work towards group functions such as Group Legal, Corporate Finance and Corporate Responsibility.
We believe that this will not only be a chance to learn a lot about one of today’s most talked about commodities but also to get a deeper understanding for how strategies are developed at a large, global company.
