Purpose of the job
As a Structural Mechanics Specialist at Alstom you will be a member of our design team working with product development of propulsion equipment used in all types of rail vehicles, such as metros, commutes and high speed trains. Our products are made of lightweight materials and require innovative thinking to make them perform in a demanding environment. With your skill set and experience you will focus on optimizing the products in the aspects of cost, weight and reliability.
Responsibilities:
Verify and optimize the load carrying structure of our products including its interface towards the vehicle.
Participate in several different product development teams.
Running iterative structural analysis such as FEM calculations according to EN 12663 and IEC 61373: modal analysis, static strength, fatigue assessment and instability analysis.
Perform the dimensioning and evaluation of bolt and rivets joins according to VDI2230 and Eurocode 9 and 3.
Use physical testing as a way of validating and supporting your analysis (such as shock and vibration testing, IEC 61373).
Ensure fulfilment of legal requirements and international standards in our products.
Coordinate and transfer work to resources located in best-cost countries.
Perform design reviews with focus on structural mechanics.
Investigate product failures related to structural mechanics.
Participate in customer and supplier discussions.
Scrutiny of suppliers and peer review of own group calculations.
Excellent technical report writing skills.
Make continuous improvements to our methodology, processes and tools within your area of expertise.
Be a member of a global structural mechanics team located all over Alstom different sites.
Ability to teach and be taught by other members of the team.
Qualifications:
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in structural mechanics.
Recent graduated are welcome, several years hands-on experience of calculations in railway/aerospace/automotive applications or equivalent is a plus.
Excellent hand calculation skills with a good understanding of mechanical modelling is a must.
Good knowledge of Altair Hypermesh FEM package is desirable.
Good knowledge of evaluation of welded aluminium/steel and other joining methods such as riveting and bolting.
Ability to work well with others in a team, as well as independently; often in a high pressured international environment.
Ability to coordinate and lead others
Fluent English is mandatory for this role, Swedish is also preferred, French desirable.
Willingness to occasional travel.
