Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) is a leading independent school group ("friskola") with academic results far above average and a diverse and energetic staff. Teaching is through both Swedish and English, with English the language of the corridors. IES Bromma is a school for grades 4-9 with 945 students and 100 staff. Our school is located at Brommaplan, 15 minutes from the city centre, close to buses and the subway.
We are looking for a committed Student Care Coordinator for grades 4-6 to join us in autumn 2022.
The role and responsibilities
The Student Care Coordinator (SCC) is responsible for overseeing the students’ social, emotional and physical wellbeing. The SCC is a leader and an active IES role model who embraces the IESB values and ethos wholeheartedly and believes that a safe and calm learning environment is the foundation to student learning.
- Visibility in the school:
- The SCC is to be visible in the school building ensuring a calm learning environment during the school day.
- Backbone to the disciplinary processes in the school:
- The responsibility of the SCC is to see that school rules are adhered to at all times, and to lead the staff in the implementation of the discipline and consequence ladder
- Support the mentors in the coordination and monitoring of both the Behaviour Notice and Merits
- Take a leading role in individual student interventions and conversations and follow up with parental contact
- Drive the anti-bullying processes including carrying out investigations and creating correctional plans that are communicated with the students and their guardians
- An integral part of the the Student Care Team (SCT)
- Support students in need
- Attend weekly SCT meetings and supports the Assistant Principal (AP) in managing and documenting pastoral information for the Student Care team (SCT).
- Support the AP in communicating with the various stakeholders: municipalities, police and/or other relevant authorities.
- Driving force in creating and implementing IES Bromma’s preventative work
- Improve and implement the Plan Against Abusive Treatment (PMKB), the Anti-bullying program, the Yearly Wheel for Preventative Work and the Crisis Plan for the school including professional development workshops for staff
- Support the school leadership in outlining and following up the Quality development targets based on the surveys
- Supporting the Heads of Year and the mentors in their pastoral roles
- Encourages and guide school staff to work with independently with students in line with the IES ethos
- Attend the weekly HoY meetings
- Partake in assemblies at the request of HoYs
- Inspire and encourage the HoYs and mentors in implementing mentor time programs
- Oversee student attendance
- Working closely with the student body
- Take an active role in getting to know the students in order to develop trust
- Organise and facilitate the Student Council
- Take a leading role in the yearly process of class mixing
- Work towards creating a safe and a clean school environment
- Lead the development of positive student activities during breaks
- Support the school leadership in creating and monitoring the Break Duty, Auditorium and Student Lounge schedules
- Help the school meet their targets by having a clean school, free of litter and graffiti with fresh toilets
Who are you?
- You are a visible role model with a strong presence in the daily life of the school.
- You have experience in working in a school environment and you are student focused.
- You have very good communication skills and are a constructive listener.
- You are a flexible team player with an ability to cooperate.
- You are able to remain calm and make critical decisions under pressure.
- You have an ability to handle and de-escalate conflicts when dealing with both students and parents.
- You are able to take initiative and carry through projects, and have administrative and organisational skills.
- You have strong IT knowledge (knowledge of SchoolSoft and/or Prorenata are advantageous).
- You have experience of leadership at middle management level or equivalent.
- Whilst fluency in Swedish is not a requirement, a working knowledge is seen as advantageous.
