Vattenfall is looking for summer interns!
At Business Area Markets we are now looking for a summer intern during the period of July 2020. BA Markets maximizes the value of Vattenfall's portfolio through optimization, hedging and purchasing for Vattenfall's assets and sales positions. We offer energy purchase agreements to operators of wind and solar power parks, optimize third-party batteries and enter into origination agreements in the B2B segment. BA Markets also provides access to commodity markets for the entire Vattenfall group.
The team you will be working in, Value Forecasting and Optimization, is responsible for developing decision making support models and applications for power plant optimization and automated trading. A lot of these models are run in the cloud and we want you to analyze and optimize our cloud machine setup.
Your work will consist of the following concrete tasks:
• Retrieve the cloud machine pool statistics via a REST api
• Analyze the cloud machine pool usage and develop a statistical model
• Optimize the cloud machine pool configuration to minimize costs
We are looking for someone who is enrolled at a college or university in an engineering, mathematics, software development, econometrics or data science program.
Required: knowledge of statistical models and probability distributions
Plus: (Basic) proficiency in Python, in particular ‘requests’ and ‘pandas’ libraries, as well as knowledge of LP and MIP optimization
As a person we like you to be self-motivated and independent. You are analytical and have a problem-solving mindset. Fluency in English is required.
You will get insight in actual business processes and systems. You will get an introduction to energy markets and asset optimization techniques, after which you also will get the opportunity to use your knowledge and skills to work with real-life data problems, improve the efficiency of our business and create real value.
