General description of Supplier Quality Assurance function
The Supplier Network Quality organization belongs to Volvo Group Purchasing. Our main purpose is to foster quality culture in everything we do. We develop sustainably our global suppliers base and driving them towards premium automotive quality standards and world-class performance. We are responsible to continuously improve the supplier base and the quality of purchased parts. The three main internal customers/brands for the SNQ department in Europe are Volvo Trucks, Renault Trucks and Volvo Bus.
There is now an opportunity for You to join the SNQ VBC team as Supplier Quality & Development engineer in the Metal sheets and Plastic area. We have team members located in Poland (Wroclaw) and Sweden (Gothenburg).
Job description
As an SQE, you have a full end-to-end ownership of your portfolio. Your input is key to select the best suitable supplier during sourcing process to our product. And so, during sourcing phases you will provide relevant supplier facts as a base for the sourcing cases.
Your work continues throughout the project to secure a quality assured project launch. The SQE monitors the quality of the development and the industrialization of new products at the Volvo Group suppliers. He/she is responsible to secure that the suppliers can produce and are able delivering the parts according to projects specifications with the correct / sustainable quality level and in right time. As an APQP ambassador you will be involved during the projects in everything from product development to quality assurance of the production lines on-site at your suppliers. As a consequence of successful APQP work and preventive supplier quality activities you will sign off the supplier PPAP allowing production to start at the supplier.
After serial production start, you as an interface between our operation plants and the suppliers, will continue to follow and challenge our suppliers to minimize disturbances by steering continuous improvements work, ensuring solid actions and promote zero defects mindset. Risk management skills are core in all three steps: sourcing, project and running production.
This SQA position will focus mainly on supporting VBC group/suppliers in Europe. Some of these activities will take place at the supplier locations and some at production plants / offices at the Volvo. This will require that you can take a leading position, driving for results according to Volvo Groups expectations. Qualifications
You should have an eye for details but also have a good general understanding of the situation, being able to build risk assessments and focus on the right areas. You must be an excellent communicator and a multicultural team player, both internally Volvo but also with supplier management team, able to create networks and to lead x-functional activities.
The job may require frequent travels (up to 2-3 times per month during some periods).
Preferred Bachelor in Engineering, or >3 years of technical experience needed (extensive experience and strong performance can substitute for academic degree)
Knowledge/skills in Mechanics, Materials or Production Engineering
Good knowledge and practices of automotive quality standards and tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, 8D, 5Why/Ishikawa, etc.)
Knowledge of technical drawing
Basics of metrology and statistics
Structured approach with good analytical skills and logical thinking
Strong problem-solving abilities and preventive mindset
Continuous improvement skills
Strong networking, collaboration and time management skills
Can work with significant independence
Good English communication skills, both orally and in writing, plus local language
Car driving license
Bonus if you have any experience / knowledge about automotive production process auditing standards like VDA 6.3 or similar according IATF.
