What you’ll do
The Surface Design department is the largest unit within the Operational Design organization. Our main objective is to deliver digital design models describing the future Volvo cars to engineering. We are divided in surface design teams, with different focus on exterior and interior as well as conceptual and production.

In the exterior teams we work cross functionally from concept to class A. We challenge our employees to grow in their specialties and develop through the complex process of surfacing a complete exterior. To fit in to the team you need to have a positive attitude and be willing to learn and share with the team. Our goal is to work with structured modelling methodology with low math and theoretical intersection to remain flexible throughout the design process.

This job opportunity is in the class A team. You will have your focus in late concept phase all the way to production and running changes. In the late phase the car is shared between a larger team of surface designer, therefore we value the skill to share, adopt and communicate with your team highly. You need to have an advanced understanding of the technical prerequisites of the car as well as the ability to control highlights in larger areas.

What you’ll bring
We are looking for you, a patient and devoted surface designer who finds the excitement and challenge in modelling complex shapes to harmonic perfection. We expect you to be a senior surface designer with extensive of experience in ICEM or Alias from the automotive industry. Additional software skills such as CATIA V5 or Teamcenter is a bonus. As a senior surface designer, you should also be able to act as surface design lead in projects. You need to be a self-driven team player with an open mind to discuss and solve complex shape issues with surface design colleagues, designers, and studio engineers.

You also have
* At least ten years of surface design experience in the automotive industry
* Advanced technical understanding and knowledge of complete exteriors
* Advanced English communication skills
