ESS is now looking for a Survey, Alignment and Metrology Technician for the Survey, Alignment & Metrology (SAM) Section organized within the Project Directorate. The SAM Section is providing central technical services to all ESS projects during design, manufacturing, installation, operation and maintenance phases.
The section’s mandate includes:
- Geodetic aspects of the reference systems, establishment and maintenance of the geodetic reference network.
- Accurate positioning of beam line components according to specifications.
- Geometrical control, inspection and metrology works on the beam components, target elements and neutron instruments.
- Precise assembly support, Fiducialization measurements and reverse engineering measurements.
- As-built measurements (controlling building construction and critical components prior installation)
- Ensure integration of existing and future machine and experiments upgrades from Alignment point of view.
The vacant position offers a unique chance to join a small technical team, highly skilled and focused on delivering effective support to the organization. A dynamic and ever-changing workload is expected for the coming years during the installation phase, and will slowly transition to an increased focus on supporting ESS scientific user community, operation and maintenance of the facility.
Job description
As Survey, Alignment and Metrology technician, you will be introduced to all specific instrumentations, tools and process already implement in the SAM Section. You will learn how to operate laser tracker, laser scanner, photogrammetry and other surveying equipment. You will be introduced to the processing, analysis and reporting of the data collected using a set of metrology software’s. You will be participating in exciting and very challenging assembly works on the field.
Your main responsibilities:
• Initially under the supervision of a SAM engineer, you will participate to all SAM job requests on the field to get used to the instrumentation and processes: you will be marking on the floor, scanning component, stationing instruments, drilling concrete to install references, acting on adjustment mechanisms to move heavy load on a very precise and controlled manner.
• In the office, you will learn how to extract data from the CAD system and also assist in the processing of the measurements using our set of metrology software.
• You will help in maintaining the Metrology Lab with its set of instruments and tools.

Qualifications and experience shall include:
• Practical hands-on mechanical experience supporting large-scale construction and/or installations projects
• Experience with CAD tools is an advantage
• Driven license category B is a must
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Duration & Location
This is a permanent position with six months initial probationary period.
Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
