Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
Identifying & exploring materials and their assembly/manufacturing methods for application in our future machines, including:
High strength steel
Alloys
Composites
Organic materials
Welding, gluing, bolting, riveting…
Identifying & exploring potentials with additive manufacturing for use on our machines through their lifetime, including aftermarket
Assessing the environmental impact of the machine and the manufacturing (LCA)
Support in designing and building technology demonstrators & prototypes
Creating design guidelines for new materials and manufacturing methods including stress and durability analysis
Supporting modeling, simulation & analysis of new material & assembly techniques
Leading and supporting explorative initiatives in this domain
Guarantee smooth transfer to market introduction
Close collaboration with the research Programs
Creating an academia network in this area
Supervising Student- and Thesis workers
Keep connected to Volvo Group efforts
Required competencies, personal skills and experience.
Master’s degree in material science, mechanical engineering or similar
Profound knowledge of plastics and composite materials
Experience of organic materials
Experience of various bonding techniques
Solid background in metallic materials
Good knowledge about advanced manufacturing (e.g. printing) and manufacturing methods
Basic knowledge about sustainability calculation methods (LCA), or willingness to learn them
Experience in building prototypes
Strong analytical skills
Fluent in English (verbally and written)
Ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment
Willingness to travel occasionally
Positive attitude (“let’s do it” mentality)
