Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.
This is what your new colleagues do
We imagine that our friends, families, and children are transported in a personal, sustainable, and safe way. What we build is a self-driving, fully electric, connected, and super safe Volvo Car. But the current platform makes it hard for us to implement the features that we need to succeed. The overall technical threshold is that the +140 electric components in the car make up a complex system, not allowing us to innovate at the pace we want. Therefore, we build a new platform. The brain in this platform is the high capacity Core Computer. This Core Computer together with a new centralized signal system aims to enable optimized software architecture. This will give Volvo Cars a high pace deployment of future features enabling an autonomous, electrical and connected car.
What you will do
In our part of the R&D, we develop the base software on the Core Computer. We do that to provide computational power and to enable successful integration between applications. Our teams work in an agile manner organized according to SAFe to be able to quickly adjust to changing requirements. We work with a-state-of-the-art embedded multiprocessor environment from Nvidia including hypervisors, Linux, QNX, Rust and other modern technologies. In this team we develop the firmware for an MCU, the surrounding components and protocols to interact with the MCU, as well as necessary support tooling. The firmware is an RTIC based application written in Rust. A typical workday can consist of any combination of low-level hardware debugging, feature development (including tests), system test development, requirements management and system design. Our devops environment utilizes the powers of ansible, Zuul, GIT, Gerrit and the robot test framework.
Who are you?
We think you are a software engineer with solid experience of C, C++/14 as well as Rust in an embedded environment. We want to work with you who have a keen interest in embedded programming and in modern programming languages. You are analytical and a problem-solver - aware of that there are multiple solutions for a problem. The challenge is to find the most suitable for us - together. You are a customer-oriented person who enjoys being part of a team where you take own initiatives and take pride in your own and the team’s deliveries. If you have experience within threat modelling and secure coding it would be great contribution to the team. It is considered a plus if you have experience from automotive or aerospace software development. As Rust pioneers within the organization, we actively pursue new avenues within our systems where Rust would be a good fit. Great communications skills are needed, in English, both written and verbal.
