System and Functionality Engineers

Arbetsbeskrivning

Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.

Working with System Performance and Functionality you set the characteristics of the combustion engine. You make sure the customer gets a superior quality and premium driving experience through the excellent integration of components and software. The customer will hear, feel, and enjoy the result of your work!

As a Development Engineer within System Performance and Functionality, you could either work with function and durability testing of engine components to develop and verify the performance and robustness of engine components. You could also work with system integration and calibration, where you optimize the overall engine performance such as power and torque, fuel efficiency, exhaust gas emissions, sound, and driveability.

To achieve an optimized engine you will continuously collaborate cross-functionally with many other engineers at Scania R&D, participate in forums where you present and discuss your findings with others – always aiming for the best solutions for the customer. Your results are important and your colleagues will listen to your advice.

In your daily work you will:

• Lead component testing, full engine optimization, or system integration.
• Process and analyze data, conclude results, and identify deviations and possibilities.
• Continuously communicate with stakeholders, and share your results and analyses both orally and in written reports.
• Follow-up status against design guidelines, hardware limits, project goals, and ultimately legal requirements.
• Through your experience and competence, help and guide designers or performance teams to improve engine functionality or durability of components.
• From results and discussions, you identify the next step forward, defining new activities and needs for further investigations.

Background and attributes

You are meticulous and a true team player. You work with the details and maximize customer value through your understanding of the whole system. From your conclusions, you find the best solutions together with cross-function such as design engineers, software developers, and laboratory technicians.

To succeed with this, we think you are/have:

• MSc in Engineering, graduate engineer, upper secondary engineer course or equivalent
• Genuine interest in mechanical systems
• Enjoy problem-solving by deep diving into details, as well as balancing system properties
• Good communication skills
• Analytical, methodical, and accurate
• Energetic and motivated, as well as responsive and flexible

Professional development

As a Development Engineer within System Performance and Functionality, you will be constantly evolving alongside the company and our products. You can raise your skill level via Development Path – Engineer, which will enable you to strengthen your skills within existing areas of expertise. The development of new products is largely based on balancing various interests to produce the optimum solution for Scania. This job is performed in a challenging and stimulating work environment. The role provides an excellent foundation for expanding your skillset or developing to other roles within R&D or the rest of Scania.
