The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world and hosts over 2000 visits by scientists per year, who come to carry out world-class research.

We currently have a vacancy for a:
System and Network Engineer
Duties:
You will join the Network and Data services Group and participate actively in the following activities:
- Running and management of technical projects
- Design and architecture of new solutions
- Maintenance and development of the ILL's main information system.
You will also work as the principal architect of an independent information system. You will have several roles:
- Running of the system (updating, tape rotation, etc.)
- Monitoring of equipment and software
- Configuration and maintenance of the network
- User assistance in French and English
- Monitoring developments in technology and safety for the different systems.
Qualifications and experience:
Master's level qualification or equivalent in computer systems, with at least 5 years of professional experience on diverse Windows and Linux infrastructure projects.
We are looking for someone with a dynamic and innovative approach, capable of moving projects forward with good team work. You enjoy coming to grips with new ideas and technologies, which you adopt with no major difficulty.
Obligatory IT skills:
- Good knowledge of Windows administration
- Good knowledge of Debian GNU/Linux administration
- Good knowledge of network administration
- High sensitivity to IT security
- Experience with video-surveillance tools would be an advantage
- We would also appreciate experience with automation (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.)
- Storage system knowledge (ZFS, GPFS, Ceph, etc.).
You will need to be capable in the following areas:
- System administration: Debian, Windows Server
- Physical access control
- Video-surveillance
- Networks: Extreme networks
- Firewalling: Fortinet
- Work stations: Windows 10.
Language skills:
As an international research centre we are particularly keen to ensure that we attract applicants from outside France. The successful candidate must have a sound knowledge of English and some knowledge of French (or be willing to learn it; a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.

This is an indefinite-term contract.
Accreditation required for work in controlled areas.
Post based in Grenoble and subject to administrative screening.
