Volvo Cars have an aspiration to expand its in-house software development. At the department of Core System Software, we are part of this aspiration. Our teams are building the next generation high-performance in-vehicle compute cluster, designed to host different vehicle applications, stretching from basic vehicle state machines to advance active safety and unsupervised autonomous drive functionalities. This compute cluster will be launched in our coming generation of pure electric and self-driving Volvo models. Our task is to create a safe, reliable and secure software that serve as a platform for our stakeholders and partners to deploy and innovate their applications on.
The department Core System Software consists of three Agile Release Trains (ART). One of them, ART Core Platform System, are responsible for systemization, overall quality measurement and release of the Core Compute Platform Software. We are also responsible to provide our department with tools, infrastructure, and software operations.
We are looking for a senior technical leader to join our ART Core Platform System management team as System Architect for our tools, infrastructure, and software operations.
What you´ll do?
As a System Architect, you will work alongside our Product Manager to transform our vision into a high-level architectural design, with focus on rig development, rig orchestration, continuous integration, test framework and system level tests. Your goal is to ensure that our software flow meets world-class standards and provides the best possible developer experience for our 400+ software engineers.
As the System Architect, you will be responsible for:
• Leading the evolvement of our high-level architecture designs for tools, infrastructure, and software operations.
• Collaborating with the Product Manager to define technical direction and support with creation of the ART-level anatomy.
• Managing the backlog for a team of architects specialized in tools, infrastructure, and software operations.
• Communicating and aligning architecture principles with stakeholders across the organization.
• Ensuring that the architectural high-level design is compliant with Volvo Cars' overall software flow.
• Monitoring industry trends and sharing insights on how to leverage on new standards to improve our solutions.
What you’ll bring
As a leader-of-leaders in this role, we expect you to have previous experience in relevant technical fields and proven leadership skills in a software organization.
As a person, you are structured and have experience working with multiple stakeholders. You can make significant progress even when faced with uncertainty. You set aspiring goals and maintain high standards.
To be considered for this role, you should meet most of the following requirements:
• Demonstrated experience in setting up and providing continuous integration, delivery, and deployment toolchains.
• Several years of experience in software architecture-related roles (IT, Cloud, or Embedded).
• Experience working with cloud solutions, such as Azure.
• A comprehensive understanding of the full software lifecycle.
• Experience in tool governance and evaluation.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Familiarity with C/C++ toolchains and development tools; experience in programming with C/C++
• Several years of experience using a variety of tools such as Jenkins, Zuul, Git/Gerrit, Python, Bash, Docker, Azure, Grafana, Elasticsearch, and configuration management.
You probably have a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or comparable experience. Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
