System Architect – High Performance System Architecture team

We explore the next generation of personal, sustainable, and safe Volvo cars. Volvo Cars are now in the making of a completely new platform to support fully electric, self-driving and connected cars. The heart of the car will be a Core Computer to control the vast amount of innovative functionality and systems in the car. This new design will be present in many future Volvo cars. This will be an important cornerstone for the company to be competitive in the fast-paced transformation of the previous traditional car industry going all electric.

Team and role specifics 

You will be part of our System Management team which consists of senior system architects and developers. The team is governing the High-Performance system architecture of our Core Computer and supports architects and developers across the organization to design, develop and deliver high quality software meeting our system requirements and constraints. The team is working in various domains, including SW architectural design, performance optimization, tooling, and visualization. The team aims to make our evolving application stack meet the multitude of non-functional requirements on a complex embedded high performant system. The team is a cornerstone in Volvo Cars transition into a software driven company. This role is based in Lund!

Our department at large is working with many different areas from car feature development, SW architectural design, SW build tools, CI pipelines and system analysis. The teams are working in an agile way, with great independence, ownership, and trust. We have a warm and relaxed atmosphere where you will be an important contributor to the team. Our software will run on emulators as well as hardware rigs and finally the car itself. You will have a key role in the building of the next generation of Volvo cars.

Who You Are

You are an architect or senior developer with a curious approach to new challenges. You can switch focus between the big picture and technical details when required. You enjoy great teamwork and are proactive, creative, and willing to share your experience and knowledge. You are entrepreneurial and have the capacity to drive issues in cooperation with our stakeholders. You can also navigate your way through ambiguous and undefined problems. Solid communication skills, both in written form and in face-to-face meetings are important skills you should possess.

What you will bring

You have at least an MSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent. You are self-going with at least 10 years of experience in software development.
You have:
•    The skills and experience to reason about medium/large scale software systems
•    Experience in transforming requirements into specifications and design
•    Solid communication skills.
•    Proficiency in modern C++
Nice to have:
•    Experience in embedded systems
•    Worked as Technical Lead or Software Architect
•    Proficiency in Python
•    Experience in the automotive industry and AUTOSAR
•    Knowledge in Functional Safety and Cyber Security
