The Electromobility organization is responsible for the complete development lifecycle from advanced engineering, through product development into the maintenance phase. We drive the transition from conventional powertrains to electromobility and secure a stepwise implementation in different segments/regions. This organization develops and drives the electromobility component/product portfolio for Trucks & Buses as well as creating opportunities for all business areas within Volvo Group.

Core responsibilities
We are now looking for a System design engineer to join the Motor Drive System - System team. The team has the responsibility on the system level for the electric motors used at Volvo. This includes system responsibility for functional safety. In this role you will be the functional safety manager for the motor drive system, but also a system engineer supporting the team with deliveries. In this position the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven capability and experience in functional safety and design roles. The main responsibilities include:
Functional safety manager for the motor drive system (MDS).
Be the primary contact towards suppliers for MDS functional safety.
Your deliveries consider entire lifecycle of development with participation and/or leading concepts in early phases of the development cycle.
Steer exploration of alternatives to establish a system level solution.
Secure competitive system solutions for the application needs.
Contribute to the development of technical roadmaps and system architecture roadmaps.
Responsible for functional decomposition and defining the interfaces between sub-systems.
Work close to other teams, e.g., simulation, data analytics, software development, hardware development and system verification.

Master’s degree or similar in Electronics, Data science, Software engineering, Mechatronics
You have at least a few years’ experience in embedded system design
Documented experience of working with functional safety and ISO26262 (i.e., not only trainings)
Knowledge of electric motor drive systems
Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written
It is considered a merit if you have experience within one or several of the following:
Automotive, Matlab/Simulink/TargetLink, Python, power electronics, requirement management, software configuration and development, Volvo systems, Agile principles and methods, HiL rigs and testing, functional safety.
