The offer spans transformers, high voltage products, systems for power transmission and solutions and automation for integration and interconnecting power grids – to enable a stronger, smarter and greener grid.
HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a business unit within ABB’s Power Grids division located in Ludvika. The unit develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. This ABB developed HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances, for power transmission via submarine cables and to connect power systems. In the transition to more renewable energy and less fossil fuel power plants, DC transmission is a key component to make it possible for the power systems in the world to cope with the new technical challenges.
In the field of insulation coordination, you will optimize the insulation levels within the HVDC converter station. The work includes dimensioning voltage limiting devices, surge arresters and ac and dc breaker based on different fault scenarios – all to find the best solution. Simulations are mainly being done using the tool PSCAD/EMTDC. Important part of the work is to set up the model to be used for simulations with the project/tender specific data.
