The Power Grids division is the world's leading supplier of power and automation products, systems and service solutions for the entire value chain from power generation to the transmission and distribution of electricity. HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a business unit within Hitachi ABB Power Grids division located in Ludvika. The unit develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. This Hitachi ABB Power Grids developed HVDC technology is used to transmit electricity over long distances, for power transmission via submarine cables and to connect power systems. In the transition to more renewable energy and less fossil fuel power plants, DC transmission is a key component to make it possible for the power systems in the world to cope with the new technical challenges.
In the field of insulation coordination, you will optimize the insulation levels within the HVDC converter station. The work includes dimensioning voltage limiting devices, surge arresters and ac and dc breaker based on different fault scenarios – all to find the best solution. Simulations are mainly being done using the tool PSCAD/EMTDC. Important part of the work is to set up the model to be used for simulations with the project/tender specific data.
Your responsibilities
To grow with each task, enabling yourself to develop and take more and more responsibility. HVDC is a complex product, there is always more to learn.
To successfully take on this position, you need to be thorough and structured with a high technical interest and strive for good solutions within the set time limits. You will be involved in projects, tenders, base and R&D work.
To study and verify the overvoltage protection scheme through simulations in PSCAD/EMTDC. Including specifying fault scenarios to be investigated for the project and simulate the overvoltage’s that will be input for equipment specifications and mechanical layout.
To handle the interface with other interfacing departments. Ensuring you understand their needs, and they yours, and to work for a good corporation for best end results together.

Your background
You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in relevant area of Engineering.
You are proficient in English, since you will be part of a company that operates on the global arena.
Have ability to work independently but also in team with dedicated focus, ambition and drive.
Have ability to work in an accurate and structured way.
