The department of Safety Electronics has been a rapidly growing part of Volvo Car Group over the last decade. Active Safety is an area where Volvo, through continuous launching of new and innovative and world first safety features, has positioned itself among the leaders of the automotive industry. Now the work continues to reach our ambitious vision that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo. Within the department we develop systems such as Collision Avoidance, Autonomous Drive, Full Automatic Parking, Driver Support and Protective Safety. To do this we use sensor systems based on sensor technologies such as Radar, Laser, Ultrasonic, Cameras and Accelerometers. Through Sensor Fusion, these sensors are combined to create an awareness of the vehicle surroundings that can be used by various Driver Assist and Safety Functions to support the driver.

The section Preventive Safety within Safety Electronics has the mission to develop the next generation active safety system. We are involved in all aspects of the product development process, from early research and advanced engineering projects to industrialisation of the systems in accordance with Volvo Product Development System. The group has the mission to develop the next generation active safety system. The group consists of Project managers, HW/Sensor engineers, System engineers and SW engineers.

The System Design Engineer is a key player in the development of active safety system solutions for our vehicles. Within the active safety domain we are developing system solutions that realize world class customer functions such as e.g. automatic emergency breaking, forward collision warning, lane keeping aid and autonomous driving. While the initial tasks will be adapted to fit your personal experiences, your responsibilities are expected to increase as your skills develop and as you gain experience within the domain.



Main responsibilities

* Responsible for creating a robust system solution in the distributed electrical architecture based on incoming requirements such as functional requirements and base concept requirements
* Responsible for describing how functional requirements shall be realized in a system solution
* Deliver the System Requirement Description that describes the system solution and all its interfaces and dependencies on other vehicle systems
* Specify and describe the system level safety requirements (Technical Safety concept) derived from the functional safety requirements
* Ensure that the system solution is correctly verified according to the plans.

Required qualifications

* M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering /Computer Science /Physics
* Experience from structured development processes
* Experience from requirement management
* Experience from development of complex embedded systems
* Driver's licence B
* Fluent in English
* Experience of managing suppliers in an international environment is meritorious
* Experience from system engineering or software design within the automotive sector is meritorious
* Experience of working in requirement management tools such as System Weaver, Elektra or Doors
* Good knowledge of Volvo Groups development process, methods and tools will be an advantage
* Knowledge of Autosar and ISO26262 is meritorious
