Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.

What’s in it for you?
Do you believe that cars should be safe, engaging to drive and comfortable to ride in? We do too! Be a part of an exciting journey towards improving the driving and riding experience of our cars using actively controlled chassis systems. In the role of System Safety Validation Engineer in the Driving Dynamics Functions team, part of the Personal Driving Experience Centre at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg.

The Driving Dynamics Functions develops functionality, performs tuning and validates system safety for our active chassis systems. We plan and execute all vehicle testing needed to validate the hazard analysis of actively actuated suspension components. Together with our hardware and software teams we deliver a world class experience for our customers.

As a part of the Personal Driving Experience Centre within Product Creation at Volvo Cars we ensure that our attributes of Driving Dynamics and Noise, Vibration & Harshness (NVH) are supported in the vehicle programs, both in terms of customer and legal requirements. Volvo Cars stands in front of a great opportunity, to enhance how active systems co-exist in an efficient manner for the ultimate ride, handling and steering experience – whether with a human or autonomous driver.

What you’ll do
As a System Safety Validation Engineer, you will create test plans and execute testing to validate the hazard analysis and safety goals. You will work closely with the suspension mechatronics team to develop processes and ensure proper documentation.
You will take part in function development and tuning, to thoroughly understand the systems you are expected to validate. The systems you will be working with are mainly related to vertical and roll control of chassis.
You will get the chance to develop our working methods using a wide range of tools including CAE, an advanced driving simulator and physical cars.
Your home office will be in Torslanda, Gothenburg. But you will also spend time at our proving grounds at Hällered, as well as external test sites in Spain and northern Sweden when required.

You and your skills
On a personal level, you are customer focused, with self-leadership and a drive that enables you to develop and implement new methods. You value structure and have a data driven mindset to engineering.
You have good interpersonal skills, thrive in a team and have the ability to build trust.
Professionally you have at least 2 years of experience in vehicle dynamics – with an interest in both CAE and physical testing – with experience of working with active control systems, either in car or with hardware in-the-loop test rigs.
Experience of system safety or functional safety development and testing is viewed positively.
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, engineering physics or similar is desirable.
