Purpose of the role
The Lab Test Engineer will be working with the specific application of the wayside system within region North. The main responsibility in the role as Test Engineer is to verify that the wayside system fulfills the railway signaling requirements. Tests will be carried out on target machine and in a virtual environment doing manual test or implementing and maintaining automated test cases.
The Lab Test Engineer role corresponds to the role Tester and Integrator stated in CENELEC EN 50128, 2011 and to the role Independent Verifier stated in the Interlocking Engineering Process.
Key responsibilities
- Lab responsibility: Installation, configuration and maintenance of hardware and software including simulators that are needed to be able to perform wayside specific application system test in lab.
- Cooperation with employees within the team and department to continuously improve system knowledge and improve way of working.
Responsibilities according to CENELEC EN 50128, 2011:
Tester:
- ensure that test activities are planned
- develop the test specification (objectives & cases)
- ensure traceability of test objectives against the specified software requirements and of test cases against the specified test objectives
- ensure that the planned tests are implemented and specified tests are carried out
- identify deviations from expected results and record them in test reports
- communicate deviations with relevant change management body for evaluation and decision
- capture outcomes in reports
- select the software test equipment
Integrator:
- manage the integration process using the software baselines
- develop the Software and Software/Hardware Integration Test Specification for software components based on the Designer’s component specifications and architecture stating what the necessary input components, the sequence of integration activities and the resultant integrated components are
- develop and maintain records on the integration activities
- identify integration anomalies, record and communicate these to relevant change management body for evaluation and decision
- develop a component and overall system integration report stating the outcome of the integration
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Engineering. Alternatively, any equivalent degree or work experience.
• Vocational university with orientation towards railway.
• Railway signalling knowledge
• 2-5 years post graduate work experience as software tester engineer
• Computer knowledge for example installation of operating systems, drivers and network configuration
• Python and Linux knowledge
TESTER
• shall be competent in the domain where testing is carried out e.g. software requirements, data, code etc.
• shall be competent in various test and verification approaches/methodologies and be able to identify the most suitable method in a given context
• shall be capable of deriving test cases from given specifications
• shall have analytical thinking ability and good observation skills
• shall understand the relevant parts of EN 50128
INTEGRATOR
• shall be competent in the domain where component integration is carried out e.g. relevant programming languages, software interfaces, operating systems, data, platforms, code etc.
• shall be competent in various integration approaches/methodologies and be able to identify the most suitable method or combination of methods in a given context
• shall be competent in understanding the design and functionality required at various intermediate levels
• shall be capable of deriving the types of integration test from a set of integrated functions
• shall have analytical thinking ability and good observation skills tending towards the system level perspective
• shall understand the relevant parts of EN 50128
